I would use your own money and buy your own car, be responsible about it and ask your dad to take that money from the S2000 he claim's he'll get you, and put that towards getting your own place or honestly some kind of high interest bearing savings outlet for after you get out of high school...im sorry to say, but teens dont need a car like this...for various reasons, one being lack of driving responsibility and lack of experience. I know i'll hear something about this from someone out there...but really, i know atleast my child will NEVER get a car like that when their 16-18 years old...if they buy it themselves with their own money...surely, but overall, a teenage person (like yourself) with very little personal driving experience does not need a car like that. Sorry.

When i was 16 i would have killed for the cars i have right now...but now, thinking back on it, im certainly glad i didnt have anything even close. That and i wasnt really all that concerned with image in high school, i was just trying to get out of there and out into the real world...where in all reality, being a young person trying to figure out what they want to do (school, job force, whatever), the S2000 and the payments and insurance that go along with it are not all that great to have in your lap.

nothing wrong with driving a 16 year old civic until then...there is something wrong with a 16 year old driving a 0 year old S2000 though

as a "kid" that just turned 21, my advice would be to get a beater that you can have fun with and learn how to drive well. My first car was an 87 BMW 325, old and cheap, but it was tons of fun. At 16 I would do things in that car that would make my cry if I tried in the S(although the S could probably handle it).
If you can get anything right now I would suggest trying to get a Del Sol. I owned one before I got my S and loved it. That car was soooo much fun, and in many ways drove like the S. Not as fast and not as good looking, but an awesome car and gives you a lot of the feel of the S.
I think its important to start driving right away to get experience. I really doubt that your dad would disagree with this.
Explain the $3,000 or an S2000 thing a little more. How much is your friends Civic?

civic is being sold for 1,800 because the he wants to get rid of it. the reason i put this post up here is because i'm not allowed to get a car until i turn 18. my dad does'nt want me to buy my own car because he wants me to worry about school. but now that school is over my mom said to just buy the civic.
and for all those people who said wait till your more expierianced to handle the s, i've been driving since i was 13 racing gocarts and driving friends cars on the main roads.plus i'm constantly taking my dads car out for joy rides when ne's not home.

And i can assure you, this makes no difference what so ever.
Its kind of like motorcycle people that hear NON-motorcycle people talk about how they've "ridden dirt bikes" or "took their friends bike down the road"...makes no difference, you still have no experience on motorcycles even if you've done that all your life.
I wont even comment on the go-cart thing, i'll just leave it at apples and oranges. Taking your friend's car out on a main road or taking your dad's car on a joy ride gives you about .00001% of the experience you get after driving for even 1 year on your own. Regardless of your childhood experience you've stated, your experience is lack luster and this car is not for you in my opinion...and im sure i dont stand alone with that opinion.
Not trying to put you down man, just trying to convey that you dont need this car right now, you might want it, but you dont need it...i promise...its like a person that's never ridden a motorcycle jumping on an R1 or something with no experience...just not a good idea.

Wow..I'd say your in no way responsible enough to have a car like an S2000. Your Dad is right making you wait until you're 18 to drive.

well as far as school goes, yeah its important but not having to worry about transportation problems is also a plus. If I were you, I would buy the civic because nothing makes you feel better than what you worked and paid for yourself.

The actual driving isn't the hard part anyone can do that. It's avoiding the dumbasses that want to run into you. Driving on the freeway at 12a.m.(most likely the itime you'd be joy riding) and 5p.m.(rush hour) are two totally different situations.
I say get the civic, i know my life would be a pita without a car right now(im 17 and stay at school sometimes till 12-1am). Between not having to have your parents take and pick you up from school (when you can't get a ride from a friend) and the freedom a car brings its worth it. Just wait till after school to buy your "dream car" when you can buy it yourself with the money you earned.
Just keep it safe. There's only one way to get exp. and that's to drive. If your first car was a s2k (even at 18) your chances of wrecking it would be incredibly high.
