Default gear ratios for GSR and testing if speedometer is off

hey, i have a 95 GSR, and i'd like to know what the gear ratios are for it.

also, i would like to know what the equation is for finding the true speed of the car at a certain rpm in 5th gear, thanks

whats your tire size? stock, this matters. if it is stock here you are.

with a GSR tranny, just look at your RPM and multiply that by 2 .....

3000 RPM = 60 MPH
3500 RPM = 70 MPH
4000 RPM = 80 MPH
4500 RPM = 90 MPH
5000 RPM = 100 MPH

thats good.

i still would like a real equation however. i'm pretty sure its not off at all, but i want to have real proof that it is, not just x2. trying to use this information to help get out of a ticket

sorry, but you're not going to get anywhere in contesting a ticket with that equation you're looking for... it's your word against the officers... good luck though...

well to be smartass. you actually have to divide by 50 not multiply by two
3000 rpm divided by 50 = 60 MPH
3500 rpm divided by 50 = 70 MPH
4000 rpm divided by 50 = 80 MPH
4500 rpm divided by 50 = 90 MPH
5000 rpm divided by 50 = 100 MPH
5500 rpm divided by 50 = 110 MPH (please dont drive this fast)

here are a couple calculators and conversion charts
http://www.car-videos.com/tools/speedrpm.asp speed calculator
and http://www.ff-squad.com/tech/temp/Bgears.htm gear ratios

i read this in an archived article

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by PatrickGSR94 &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Some of you guys are looking at this the wrong way. Tire size makes no difference whatsoever what speed is displayed on the speedometer vs. engine speed. The speedometer reads off the transmission, and when you change tire sizes, nothing in the tranny or engine changes. Everything between the engine crank and the speed sensor's driven gear remains the same, and so the speedometer always shows the same speed at any given RPM in any given gear, regardless of tire size..</TD></TR></TABLE>

actually a GSR will do about 3975rpm at 75mph with stock tires in fifth gear. both your stock tachometer and your stock speedometer are off. both are too high, and the amount it's off by increases the higher each gauge reads. this is why it always appears that you can rev higher than your tachometer's redline. my LS seems to rev to 7400rpm stock, but if you read the tachometer signal off the ECU, it's actually only doing about 6900, although it fluctuates rapidly at redline thanks to fuel cut-off.

So that would mean that a GSR could hit speeds up to 160mph? and no i don't plan to go and try anything like that, i would just like to know the maximum speed the factory GSR tranny could reach.

so yes, the factory GSR tranny, with an 8200rpm rev limiter and stock tire size, could hit like 157mph.

I have a rev speed meter, and I see the same thing. ~4000 = 75mph. I have 195-50-15 series tires

thanks for backing me up. i did it with math. i've never driven straight GSR gears.

I believe you can only hit 147 with factory gsr tranny

that is because your tires are much smaller than stock. stock is 195 55 15
a gsr is at exactely 4k agoing 80 on 5th

why do you guys run 195/50's? i've always run 205's in varying profiles, and i have some 195/45R14's for racing (just for the front). i don't remember which tire i did the math for, but i would think i would have crunched the numbers for the 195/55R15 tire. although not all tires that are the same size are actually the same height. depends a LOT on construction. i once held two 205/55R15's, one in each hand, and set them on the ground next to each other. i swear, same tire size, but one was a full TWO INCHES taller than the other one. two different makes, but same size. that's bull right there.

I have a 96 GSR, bone stock with the factory size wheel/tire combo of 195/55R15. I read 60km/h in 5th gear at 2000rpm. So this would mean that at 8000rpm it would be doing 240km/h, which sounds about right to me. The redline is 8100rpm im pretty sure.

please people, don't trust your stock tachometer and speedometer for this. they both tend to read high.

ls has wider tranny than a gsr due to a lower redline with the ls engine...technically, the first two gears on a gsr and ls are the same...just final drives and other **** like that

<U>Based on my calculations,</U>

With 195/50/15 (~22.5" used in calculation) 4000 RPM will be about 77.3 MPH....

With 195/55/15 (~23.4" used in calculation) 4000 RPM will be about 80.4 MPH....

With 195/55/15 (~23.4" used in calculation) 3975 RPM will be about 79.9 MPH....
