Default cranks, won't start

first: 1988 Civic DX Sedan 5spd

It will crank but it won't start, i'm getting fuel and spark.

I replaced the distributor w/ a known good, no cel's, it will fire once in awhile, the rest of the time it floods out.

I've checked all the vacuum lines and all connectors and everything is good.

i'm new to ef's but know eg's pretty well

i can't believe i forgot that part of it, i guess i'm out of it today.

i changed the headgasket and did an mpfi swap at the same time, the mpfi swap didn't work, it wouldn't rev past 2500rpms
I switched it back to dpfi and used a 91 hatch harness; it still didn't rev up because of the harness and 2 wires switched.
before i realized it was the harness i switched the throttle body for another one i had.

after i switched the throttle body it won't start.

i checked all the fuses today and they are all good
both the ground to the head and the thermostat are good.

it started after i switched the throttle bodies, i've switched back to the first one again and it still won't fire.

this might be a long shot, but it could be your ignition switch (where your key is) it did that on my crx and i tore everything apart trying to find the problem, then i stumbled upon the ignition switch replaced it has no problems ever since.

but of course i could be wrong in your situation, good luck

WHy on earth would you do an mpfi swap, get it running and have one very small problem to trouble shoot, then swap it all back?

i think i'm going to take another intake manifold i have and put it on.

the whole problem started afer i took the throttle body off so i figure i put a manifold on that the throttle body has not been removed and that may fix it.

take a look at the crank sensor and Cyl sensor Signal, if one of those aint working, buy a new distributor. The distributor wont fire any spark since he doesnt know where the firing sequence beggins ...

You've been quoted.

Seriously though, have you checked the ignition switch yet?

wiring isn't a problem
i took the old engine harness out that hacked apart for mpfi and switched it w/ my friends stock harness(88 std)
i moved the pins back on the ecu and put that back to stock.

i'm gonna try it tomorrow, i'm hoping that i just flooded it out today and that's why it wouldn't start all the way.
good news is i have 185psi compression across the board which is pretty damn good for having 222k miles on it

you are using a 91 harness in a 91 car, correct? cause the pinouts change from year to year if im remembering correctly...i dunno its late.

also, yea try charging the battery.

i was doin the same thing, battery was at 11.8 volts. charged it to about 12.6 and it worked fine.
