u kno, black top, red top like the sr20 . .

Anyways, im ASSUMING hes talking about the R motor. So, newintegraowner, our gsr's use the same c1 motor, with a black valve cover, unless it was replaced by the bling red R cover. Or swapped for a c5 R motor. Its worth nothing more.

As far as being only a 'little' more, R's are not as easy to find, and there a considerable difference in cash.

im not talking about a c1 engine with a red valve cover, i thought everybody knew that a integra type r engine is called a red top, this is a honda website, i didnt think everybody was dumb about hondas here.

im sure a lot of people here havent heard them being called "redtops" in fact, i wouldnt be surprised if you made it up. but yeah, if your friend can get a type r for only a little more then do it for sure. I wanted to get a type r instead of my gsr when i got it, but unforunately around here youre not going to find a type r unless you pay about twice as much than a gsr, but iuf you can do it, do it, and dont wait, cause its probably quite the deal

maybe in SC its different but where i'm from it goes like this ... honda motors are refered to as b16, b17, b18, b20, h22, d15...blah blah blah the list goes on. now NISSAN engines are refered to as red top, bluebird or blue top, and black top, so on and so fourth ... so here's to you

Not to offend you, but insulting the members isn't the best way to make a decent first impression, nor will it help you get answers to your questions. I've been a Honda-Tech member for 4-1/2 years and have spent much of that time frequenting the Type R forum (being a former ITR owner and continuing enthusiast), and I have never once seen or heard the B18C5, the JDM B18C R-spec., or any other Type R motor referred to as a "red top".

As others have already stated in reference to your original question, a legitimate ITR motor is rarely "only a little more" than a B18C1 in terms of price. Whether or not the additional cost is justified is really up to the individual, and also depends upon what his plans are for motor.

lol @ redtop, i'm gonna have to use that one, haha. i never heard anything like that, haha.

anyway, you better make sure that engine says b18c5, instead of going by the color of a valve cover.

we're not dumb about hondas, new integra owners are dumb about hondas

so if you call the c5 motor "redtop" what would you call my car if i had a Mugen valve cover? would it be "mugentop"?

better yet, since i drive a gsr, would your poll be gsr or "mugentop"??

i never flame noobs, but i had to make this exception
