Hey whatsup guys Iam one of those young kids abotu to get my first bike... iam lookin to get a 2000-2002 gsxr600 and I read a lot about1st bikes but i feel Iam mature enough not to do nutin dumb...

Anyway... iam going to be lookin at some bikes sometime next week, and I need a few tips... I want to know if Iam buying a good bike or not.. I live upstate new york and there are a lot of great prices in the ads up here the bikes are very well priced...

To get to the point. What are some tips, secrets you guys know of to see if a bike has been mistreated or isnt in good running condition Ill post what I know and Please feel free to add so all us noobs can get a good idea..

- Check brake pads to make sure the bike wasnt indoed and ran too hard.

-Check tires especially back to see if there was burnouts

-If you can get it from a older adult (they usually do less tricks I guess)

well Thats basically I know... Iam lookin for some tips to see if it is in mechanically good running condition POST ALL THANKS!!

What I did was, might not help you, but bring a friend or two who knows what to look for in a bike when buying it. One friend used to race for kawa and has a good idea on what to look for. And the other guy just has been riding since a kid, so he knew some pointers too. It can never hurt to have a second opinion on something.

Be safe with your bike. How old are you? Nothing against you or your age, but just because you feel mature enough doens't mean you are. Insurance can hurt ya, someone else on the road, anything on the road, just take your time.

Make sure to learn to ride in an empty parking lot, get gear. Be safe. A 600 can be a lot for someone new.

Check maintenance records.
Theres alot more, more than I know. Hence a friend is my advice.

Coo, Iam 19 and I checked insurance and its nto bad at all; its 477 a year, iama be paying like 45 a month... I looked up records and a lot of ppl dont neccessarly <Cant spell die on bikes(in NY) . A lot of fatal accidents are usual do to speeding and other factors the motorist did to crash...

This is just my own opinion but I went to Miami to visit a friend and they drive worst then ppl in NYC... but I live upstate NY in albany its like a average city and the drfivers up here dont seem bad like the bigger cities. I know that dont mean nutin but you know....

And yea Iam tryin to get this guy to come wit me to look at bikes but I dont rely on nobody if he cant come through thren I gotta go by myself and check things out.

brakes wear out. you cant really tell if someone did burnouts unless you see rubber melted over the grooves in the tread. daily driven bikes tend to wear only in the middle.

check the oil, cold startups, sproket, coolent if its older.

if possible take off a couple fairings and see if the fairing mount tabs are bent to see if it was wrecked or other indications of wrecks (missing fairing scews ect).

and ride or have the bike ridden. i'm passing 30k miles of really hard riding and it still runs awsome getting due for a valve adjustment.
