Default Difference in intakes? short ram, cold air, and "fat tube"

Hey guys i have been wondering about intakes and the difference in the powerband that they make. Could anybody tell me the advantage to a "fat tube" style intake (i just saw one on ebay and never knew the name of them and the seller desribes it as a fat tube so thats what i will be calling it ) versus a cold air intake or a short ram?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...&rd=1

that is the auction for a picture of it ( i know what i said is kinda vague)

That's a copy of the J's Racing intake. There's plenty of good information around here regarding all three styles of intakes.

I don't have the money for the bling bling ARC box intake but I do have the J's replica intake.

I will tell you that I've noticed the motor a bit louder and you can hear it suck in air like mad. I belive there was a huge 15 page thread about the J's replica intake and it giving something along the lines of 4HP or so.

Also from what I read is that the way it's designed...it will bring in more air into the intake pipe and where it gets smaller it presures the air into the intake manifold as opposed to having a straight 3" intake pipe. Myth or not...but I like my intake

I say if you have the money, go for the comptech icebox, if not, depending on your car, go with a ITR aem cai, it has 3" pipe and stuff.

On my ITR, the short ram looked best, mainly due to it's performance from 6-7000 rpm.
