Rear Bumper ' filler ' piece removal (91 hatch)
I'm looking to replace the filler piece between the actual rear bumper and where the taillights are on a 91 hatch. Was rear ended and tweaked the bumper a bit, making a very small gap just above and behind the rear wheel wells, but the most unsightly part is this filler piece which is tweaked into a constant 'snarl' (Think of the taillights as eyes and only the left side of this piece bent up in an elvis-style lip curl)
I'm thinking i may just be able to change out this filler piece and have it looking more or less good as new ( as 'new' as a 15 yr old car can look
) But may have to change the bumper as well.
My manuals suck *** when it comes to this, so if someone could enlighten me on getting this filler piece removed/reinstalled, and/or perhaps the whole rear bumper, it would be much appreciated.
I just want my car's '***' to look hot again and not mangled!

There are two bolts and two nuts that have to be removed. You do not have to remove the hatch release lock!
Remove the rear bumper. The two bolts are at each end. The nuts are toward the center and are about 2 feet apart (one foot from the car centerline).
You do NOT have to remove any of the interior panels to get to any of the nuts or bolts.
That's all it is.

yeah I did that yesterday cuz i got the JDM filler piece for my rear bumper. you have to unbolt 4 nuts to get the bumper off 2 are on the inside of the car under the tail lights on the left and right side and the other 2 are under the car. then after you pull the bumper off you have to unbolt 2 bolts and 2 nuts from the underside of the filler piece.... good luck it takes a few minutes if you can find all the bolts
Signed on just in time.
I just bought a US rear filler piece and was wondering..
Are all U.S. 88-91 HB filler pieces the same??? No diff. between 88-89 and 90-91.

i have a 88 hatch and i know with the JDM one i have that is from a 90 there is a differents. the key hole is about 3-4 inches to the right on the 90, now i dont know if its the same in the US or not
I think the junkyard gave me the rear filler off of a 90-91, im hoping this b/c I have a 89. When i went to install it, the keyhole lines up, but sits deep inside the filler, its not flush.
