Default WTB: B20Z Short or longblock... Where can i find one??! (BAY AREA)

im lookin for a 99-01 b20z with 9.6:1 ratio... post how many miles condition...

would it be better for a b20vtec all motor? not for crazy racin.. jut for some go... im look at a b16 head and the block.. i thinkin more power cause its got higher cr... but how much more horsepower does the vtec head add? cause a b20z got like 146 hp stock...

also c an i put an obd1 b16 head on an obd2 block?

I know that Jetco Motors out in Berkeley has (1) USDM B20z available right now. I know b/c I just returned it due to either; blown rings or cracked valve guides or seals (symptoms: constant smoke-screening while on idle and 1st gear). I baught it with the intention of a straight drop-in for my 4dr integra daily driver. But since you are planning to do ls-vtec on it, and will have only use for the block anyways, its a good buy for you. All it probably needs is a fresh set of rings. Most ppl I know replace the pistons with some aftermarket ones such as CP, JE, Golden Eagle, etc to raise up the compression anyways so a total dismatling/rebuilding is required.

I picked it up the complete longblock for $700.38 w/6months warranty (Others charge atleast $1195). I'm sure Frank (owner) will break you a deal on it since its only good for the block now. Im pretty sure you know what you are looking for b/c he might try to sell you a b20b (126hp). You're gonna wanna look for the silver box on top of the intake manifold and a knock sensor behind the block.

*A good way of recognizing if its the block I returned is:

1: There's a silver paintstrip I left on the valve cover located on the #3 chamber.
2: You will see some welding done on the back of the block near where the T-Bracket bolts on to. A piece of it cracked off as the engine came out of a wrecked CRV. Don't worry, I later discovered that this wasn't a vital piece.

I hope this helps. Good Luck

why dont u get a newer jdm 99-00 b20b, same thing except it has the b rather than the z. i had bought a z last time only cause i was thinking that it was USDM and i could get it to pass smog, but that wouldnt happen.

Yeah that's true..99-01 JDM B20B's have the same specs as the USDM B20z's. However, you have a better chance of finding a B20Z than a 99+ JDM B20B as they are pretty hard to come by. Most of the local importers carry 95-98 B20B's at the moment b/c they think its all the same. 99+ JDM B20B's has the same characteristics as the USDM B20Z: knock sensor, Air Chamber on top of the intake mani. Also, make sure to check the production stamp on the head. Make sure its a 99 +.

Yes, you can put an OBD1 head on an OBD2 block. Follow the same LS/B20-VTEC guidelines.
