depends on what you want it for ... looks/sound/performance... be more specific and you'll get more specific answers

u can go to an a exhaust shop get custom 2.5 inch mandrel bent piping from the header.. get a bigger cat converter (one to match your size piping) and get a nice muffler of your choice welded on there.. i dont know which is most quiet.

and since you have lx i would invest in a better header

is it better to get a 2 inch piping because wouldnt you lose lower end torque with greater then 2" ? I would think a 2 inch piping from cat back would be sufficient.

Invidia/Skunk2 if you don't mind loud or Apexi WSI or II if you want quiet. I have the Invidia and it is pretty loud without the silencer although not bad with the silencer although it doesn't look quite as good I don't think. I have heard you loose power with the silencer but it really feels like it accelerates faster to me with the silencer but it may just be my imagination. It looks nice and is all stainless steel versus the Apexi which the piping isn't stainless only the muffler part of it but it is a lot quieter. I wanted the WSI but never found one and didn't like the WSII where the the tip was off center. I would check out those two I like the Invidia/Skunk2 a lot better but it is loud without the silencer as I said above. I also considered custom piping with a Apexi N1 but it seems like the best bet if I was going to go that way would be the Invidia/Skunk2 so I went with that.

i have heard like 5 brands now, HKS, Greddy, RS*R, Apexi, Manaflow...

I know the gains wont be much at all but, which would give the most gain?

personally would go with the greddy sp2 or evo2, the good thing about the evo2 is it doesnt hang down really low so you can have some ground clearance. The difference between sp1 and sp2, aswell as evo1 and evo2 exhaust systems is the sp2 and evo2 are stainless steel to prevent rust and corrosion. However i do not know the diameter of the piiping ;(.

But if you dont do the exhaust work yourself youll end up saving a lot of money just getting a muffler, taking it to an exhaust shop and having them put on 2 - 2.5" diameter custom piping from the cat back.
