i'm getting only 15 mpg..?
my 93ludevtec is a piece of shiet and i hate prelude more than a passion. Everything is still good; cap and rotor, spark plugs, not a damn thing is wrong from what i see.. is there a way i can get an adjustable fuel and adjust it low so it wont freaking splatter massive of gas?
i havent check the compression lately but my car has 202k on it. even though i stay out of vtec and drive normal, it's still the same. seems like if i drive normal it'll eat gas more than drivin it hard. be the way what are the normal compression?

i did the math correct.. pumped on empty tank with 5 gallons and got only around 75-80 miles. now that's shiety.

i just filled at 370 miles from my last refill, and the fuel light wasn't even on. I didn't have any ticks left - but that nil tick seems to last forever i could have easily broke 400 miles to the tank. I'd pull your 02 sensor and take a look at that... and put something up against your ear so you can listen to all the injectors... perhaps you got a leaky one.
all the best - sorry to hear about your hatred for the lude, i love mine (;

reset ur tripometer(sp) and pump ur gas to full. drive it around till it is almost empty. go back to the gas station and pump it up to full. look at the miles u drove and divide that by the gallons you just pumped. dont look at what u pumped the first time.

seems like everyones gettin higher mileage. i got a 93 vtec model. didnt even drive in vtec... got around 280 miles to the tank. from all the way up to orange light. which is average 20 mpg. other ppl are gettin a lot more. and i dont even have many mods. only mod i have that eats gas is my headers. everything else is stock.
Try these. You probably just need a major tune-up
-Clean fuel injectors
-Clean IAC Valve
-Clean EGR Valve
-Change fuel filter
-Valve adjustment
-Use Seafoam
-Change plugs and wires

i'm not really familiar with those terms IAC, EGR. So they are just some units that can bolts off and clean it and bolts back on right? Where are those IAC and EGR valves. A diagram will be helpful..thanks
Theres definately something wrong with the car. I have I/H/E/Cat with no O2 sensor running rich on a CEL and I still get 24-25mpg.
How do your plugs look? (white, black, etc)

if it's on its way out - it won't necessarily give a light - mine was funny when it finally died - the light wouldn't come on (for regular driving) - unless i really stepped on it - then i'd pull the code and sure enough 02 sensor. when i replaced it - the whole top part of it was missing - so go figure (it's prob in my cat or muffler! or disintegrated lol).
yea you'll usually notice increased gas consumption - because it's not sensing your exhaust gasses correctly so the ecu will dump more fuel than required to prevent a lean condition which is more damaging to your engine.
in a worst case scenario - pull it out (i don't envy you, it's in an awkward spot and usually tight as all hell) and take a good look at it... if it appears fine - you can move on (:... something tells me at 15mpg - it's not in the greatest shape - if your engine is otherwise runs fine(?).
with the timing (other post) and a new 02 sensor (if req) - should be getting some good mileage out of her - not to mention doing some of the other recommendations people in this post suggested.

At 15mpg I really doubt it is just a fouled O2 sensor because I'm running with no O2 sensor right now and my ECU is just dumping fuel and I still get 24-25mpg.
As for seafoam, at 200k, it will be a hit or miss because the carbon build up could be actually holding your motor together. I can seafoam at 120k and it was find and I'm going to run another bottle soon (I'm at 153k).
Give it a compression test just in case, and check what the plugs look like at the same time.

I get a kick out of these "I only get x mpg" I put in x gallons and only got x miles".
Come on guys, check your MPG correctly, as empathy said. Fill up your tank, reset the trip meter, drive until your gauge reads down to 1/4 tank or so, refill it, and calculate. Gallons/miles = Miles Per Gallon (MPG)
Until you do this for three or four tanks, you really don't have a clue what your AVERAGE gas mileage is, for accurately determining if you have a problem or not.
Come back to us after three tanks of gas, with numbers, and tell us what your actual MPG is, and then we can help you.

ok since you guys mention the o2 sensor.. i guess i'm gon' have to go under and take it off and see if it's in good shape. O2 sensor...I kinda think so, i havent touch it since i brought it at 180k miles on it. 180k is a pretty high mileage and maybe the o2 sensor went bad after all.
Ok seafoam..? never heard of that. What is it..can i buy it at any auto part store?

mpg is not determined by my car, but my foot
as for seafoam, you can get it at autozone and its in a silver can.
