Default Need some help finding biggest bang for the buck on new tires for DD

I drive an '05 ep3 and HATE the oe tires, so I am looking for something in a 205/45/16 that I can throw right onto the stock rims, which I actually do like.

I live in Lexington, KY so I do get my share of wet weather so the tires cant be crap in the wet. Snow isnt much of a consideration, while we get some its usually more ice than snow, so I just need something capable in cold temps. I have limited experience with the Kumho 712's on a DA, but didnt get to use them much before I got rid of the car and it weighed nothing when compared to this Civic. However, the tires seemed OK, I have also been looking at the BFG G-Force Sport and I have seem some good reviews for the Falken Ziex 512.

So to recap, this is for a DD ep3 and will see little to no auto x time, maybe once or twice a year. Good dry and wet performance is a must and the tires must be able to handle cold temps, but I am not really worried about snow since we tend to get ice and it doesnt matter what kind of tires you have. Anyone with experience with the above mentioned tires or anything with a similar price point please feel free to offer your insights. I am looking at tires in the $70-80 price point, I just cant justify spending a lot on tires.

Thanks for any feedback!

I just did some reading on the 512's, looks like they are a "all season performance" tire. Would this be accurate? How would you compare the tires for spirited driving vs rain grip vs cold weather/snow/ice? How has the wear been? Do you feel like you give up much in warmer weather driving to have the all weather performance?

Thanks for the help!

I like the Yokohama ES100's for seasonal weather.

It just compares to what I am comparing them to. Overall they do pretty well, I'd put them up there with Eagle F1s and just under the Pilot Sports. But I dont consider both of those tires exceptional by any means. Just sets I have used over time. All of them tend to do a lot of squeeling when pushed through a corner, something I dont care for when AutoXing.

I will say I dont remember if the ES100's are M+S rated, but I dont recall them being the best snow tire (but you said you dont have to worry about that much). And with the ice consideration you wont find a tire regardless that will aptly handle that condition AND provide great dry traction.

Ya, I am willing to give up snow/ice handle as long as the tires are ok in cold temps. Besides I can always drive my wifes car if it snows, she wont drive in any snow...
