Cleaning out road salt crap from carpet

I'm about to pull the carpet from my 95 coupe and I have to clean out these nasty deposits of road salt that have dried and solidified. whats the best method to get that out?

carpet cleaner? like the kind u use at home? or a rug shampoo or something.

i remember trying that before and it wasnt strong enough to take it out.

maybe i need to give it an overnight soak.
