Default 88 Accord Clutch problems

I am helping a friend troubleshoot his issue, and he has an 88 Accord and what is happening is the clutch pedal can be pushed in but won't spring back. He has to pick it up off the floor with his foot. He seems to think it is the pressure plate, i think it could just be a bad clutch cable/connection somewhere. Just wanted some other opinions on what it could be.

Thanks alot.

Does the clutch cable move the release arm? Is the cable properly adjusted?

Yes the clutch cable moves the release arm, and the cable odes not have excessive slack or overtightened.

Nice thinking though, i thought the same thing

Pressure plate and or the whole clutch assembly i am guessing. I really don't think he wants to drop that much money into it.

Is it possible to have the clutch cable fall off/ come off the pedal assembly? I am not current'y at the car abnd i am just telling you guys what he tells me, i am sure when i get there tonight it will be somethign small like the cable.

It's not very likely it would just fall off, it could break. But with either one of those scenarios, would the release arm move?

you are correct, didn't think abo it like that.

So what could it be then? Just the whole clutch assembly?
