replaced wheel bearing, still has play..
I bought a used set of crx si knuckles. The drivers side had some play in the wheel bearing. I went and got a new bearing and had a local shop press it in. When I was at the shop I checked to see if there was any play in the bearing and hub, there wasn't. I put it on the car and installed the rotor and caliper. I then put the wheel on. Once the wheel was on I tugged on it a little and there was alot of play again, even more then previously. I spun the wheel and there was a visible amount of wobble in the wheel. Is there a possibility that the hub it self coud be damaged? It is a new bearing from honda. Could the shop have damaged the new bearing when pressing it in?
Also the passengers side has a little play in it but not much. When the wheel is on and spun it is straight as an arrow. no wobbles at all. Should there be a little play when the car is not on the ground? Do the bearings need a certain amount of load on them to keep them from wobbling? Any help would be great. Also if I do need a new hub where is the best place to go. Can I get a reman from autozone? Thanks again.

You should check your lower control arm bushings to see that they are in good condition. If they are worn, you'll see similar play when tugging on the wheel/tire.
there are no axles yet installed, the car is still being built. Its not the lca they are all new bushings and ball joints. any other ideas?

the axles is what keeps the bearing from coming apart. You have to have the axle in to tighten up the bearings. It is not good having a car set on its wheels with no axles the bearings could actually fall out (usually your rotor and caliper will hold them in but it puts major wear and stress on the bearings)
Good thing they where only on the ground for about 10 min while i moved the car from one side of my garage to the other. When I get the axles in then we'll see what happens. Thanks for the info.

The bearing should be held in place w/ a large snap ring. If that is in place the bearing won't come out. As for the hub, sure it gets pressed into the bearing, but the hundreds of pounds exerted by your car could easily press it back out (I think this is your problem). Once the axle is in and the hub nut is installed, the hub will be locked in place securly on both sides (hub nut on outside, CV axle & bearing on the inside)...
