Default d15b or ZC into 1990 civic h/b?

Which swap would be easier/cheaper to drop into my 1990 civic h/b (base model, 4 speed)? a d15b or a ZC?

What would I need to swap the ZC into my car? IE. Wiring changes, axles, etc. What if I get the odb0 version of the engine? That would mean I wouldn't need to upgrade to obd1, correct? Beyond that, is there anything I need to get?

I am assuming you mean the jdm d15b vtec engine.

First off, you need to specify which ZC, DOHC? SOHC? I know there is debate whether there is a vtec zc, not sure if there is or not, I am confused about that issue. Out of ALL the ZC engines and the d15b, I would take the DOHC ZC engine, and boost it. If you aren't considering the DOHC ZC, then I would go for the jdm d15b, vtec is fun when it kicks in. I also know the SOHC ZC is the same as the d16a6, except it has a hotter cam.

Regardless of what motor you get. I would get a '90-'91 Civic/Crx Si transmission.

The DOHC ZC was the one I was talking about.. If I'm not planning on boosting, is the d15b a better choice? How much harder is that install?

When I install my ZC tranny, will I need "to get an extension shaft and 88-89 integra axles to use this transmission in your civic" as the auction I'm getting it from says?

LIsten here i got a friend thats got a JDM D15B vtec single cam that is pretty fin quick hes got it in the same car as u and the swap was pretty easy and the wiring is slightly difficult if ur converting from dual point to multi point no matter what swap u do. So from experience i would say the D15B because no matter what u do to it its still a single cam and that makes it more of a sleeper. ZZZZZZZZ

Come on, need a reply to that tranny question. Do I need to get an extension shaft for it and 88-89 integra axles?

i have a d15b vtec jdm in my 90 si hatch, and it moves pretty quick for what it is. I would say go with the d15b, i shouldnt even have to say why, at least the d15b is pretty much the same as the rest of the d-series so parts will be much easier to get, thats what made my decision.

Hey i just found out yesterday from a local shop that knows there **** that the Si Tranny is better because it has better gearing. My guy wit the D15B hatch baught one yasterday after he found out hes probably putting a LSD in it before it goes in so itll be better no matter what.

Hope that helps.

si tranny has shorter gearing....dx tranny has a longer 5th gear (for gas saver) - you never hit 5th on the drags....so it really doesn't matter

88-89 have 200mm shaft and 90-91 have 212 know this because i had bought a centerforce for a 91 because thats what the catalog showed and of course it was the wrong one
