Default Downshifting when coming to a stop?

I just got a 05 r6 and was wondering when im about to come to a stop should i downshift before hand or wait until i completly stop. when i stop and then do it i have to kinda give it a roll for it to go into first.

I downshift + use both brakes to slow down, even when daily driving so if/when the time comes I need to slow down fast I am in the habit of using all three methods to reduce speed.

Downshift while moving and then put it into first when your under 10mph or somewhere a little lower. You also might want to get in the habit of blipping the throttle on downshifts to smooth them out, especially the shift from second into first.

Just don't shift to 1st until you're at a slow roll

I never downshift into first though, I always just put it in neutral if the light's red.

Poor street habit. You're going to be in trouble if the ******* behind you doesn't stop in time.

I'm in 1st if I'm going to stop and I'm under about 20mph.

Well I'm always looking in my mirrors, but if you're not the first at the light it won't make too much difference.

come to the stop and while under 10 click it into first. watch your mirrors and if you need to move quickly or get a quick getaway you'll be in first.

give it up for the msf course!

If your night first at the light sometimes it's even better. You won't have to dart out into the intersection.

Your bike should be pointed at the gap between lanes so if the car behind you doesn't stop you can lane split forward and get some other stopped cars between you and the ******* who was about to hit you.

Ditto, except I prolly use the rear like 20% of the time.

Bullshit. You should be aware of what the guy behind you is doing. If he isn't going to stop in time it's not hard to pop it into gear and just go. in first or not, if you aren't paying attention to what is happening behind you it won't do you any good.

I'll take that extra second to get out of the way, thanks.

I'd rather be in gear ready to go then have to deal with getting rear ended for no other reason then me being a lazy *******.

You can't brake and downshift at the same time, you have to do one or the other.
Also when at a red light always keep it at 1st to be prepared in case an ******* hits you. You can't really burn out a clutch on these new sport bikes, it takes almost forever

I guess it really just depends on the riders preference. I typically only sit in neutral if I am at a light I know is long, and the cars behind me are already stopped.

I'm pretty sure I do this everyday.

Right hand - front brake
Right foot - rear brake
Left hand - clutch
Left foot - down shift.

I blip the gas when on the brakes to rev match my downshifts. It's really not that hard it's all about timing.

I do that when Im downshifting in kinda high RPMs, but if I'm going slow enough I just let the clutch out slow enough so that it is smooth.
