Default JB Weld on Tranny?

So today i was changing the fluid on my b16 tranny... long story short when i was tightening everything back up i wasnt paying attention and tightened the overfill bolt too much on my tranny and it cracked the tranny case....its not that bad , its about half an inch long... and i cant even fit my nail in the crack but it none the less lets oil seep out and drip....i dont know how to weld and i dont wanna have to go pay for a job to weld this if i can do it myself...i was told to just clean the surface and use JB Weld on it.. and just rub it in and smooth it out... will this stuff really work and how easy is it to do? never done it so any info would be much help.. oh and for information the tranny is made of aluminum so will thats stuff work? whats ur input?

I'd say for the price of JB weld that its worth a shot. If it doesn't work, then go spend some real money to fix it..I wish I could JB weld my tranny back together but I don't think JB weld will work with a blown up differential.

Well the jb weld wont prevent the crack from growing.. which they have the tendency to do, I'd just take it to be properly welded still when its only minor.

I had this problem a while ago with my old gsr tranny. Long (annoying) story short, jb weld didn't work (as well as every other metal epoxy I got my hand on). Get it fixed now while you can (needs actual-weld to fix). Hope that helps, -l8r.

JB weld is holding tranny cases together on pretty much every drag car out there. from minor knicks from breaking ring gears to chunks from breaking spools.

I JB Weld'ed the hole where my oil pressure sender was, (the threaded part [on top] broke off). Its been almost a year now and not a single leak.

I would watch it like a hawk and maybe use a permanent marker to put a line to show how far the crack is now. If it ever spreads, get it welded up ASAP.

I seriously doubt any credible drag racing team uses JB weld to patch trannies, thats just careless. Tranny case is under strain and vibration, its only a matter of time till the crack grows.

if you put a nice size hole in a tranny, and just weld it up even if you preheat the case you will still warp it. and most of the time the spots most drag racers have small cracks are in very low stress points. if you break one of these cases at a strees point its pointless to try and weld it back up.

I bet if they put a hole in the tranny, they just get a new casing.
