Default Top-Bottom vs. Side-side IC efficiency??

Turbo Gurus!

Would it be more advantageous to use a top-bottom FMIC vs. the side-side that comes with most kits?? I've read that the top-bottom design is more efficient, but in what respect?? Pressure drop? Cooling efficiency?? Side-side seems more convienent for fitment & plumbing, but would it be worthwhile to fit a top-bottom unit w/ horizontally opposed endtanks?

Here's the link to the site that sells them for DSMs. There's no pic of the top-bottom horizontally opposed unit, but it gives a good idea of what the plumbing might involve:

Any thoughts??

you decide yourself, the less you have to reroute the path of air the less pressure drop and heating of the air results.

Is there any advantage as far as cooling efficiency w/ the top-bottom design??
