Default idles poorly, running badly

99 accord f23a1 - stock

figured id try here since the accord forum is worthless

car idles like crap -if at all

hard to start, misses at idle if it will stay running. Willing to rev though and it feels like the miss goes away at higher revs. exhaust stinks of gas

checked the cam timing
plug wires are within Helms manual specs
replaced the coil
replaced the ICM
swapped out the CYP sensor
swapped out the MAP sensor
replaced plugs

compression test gives 190-180-200-190 so one is a little low but it shouldn't run like this.

ignition timing is controlled by the ECU, so i'm assuming it's good but i guess it could be off. I'm going to rent a timing light from auto zone tomorrow.

ayone else got any ideas.

Has there been anybody screwing around under the hood? I had one I got the MAP and TPS connectors swapped and it had similar symtoms.

check for possible vacuum leaks on the inlet or map sensor. Could even be something simple like air/fuel filters blocked, or spark plug gap incorrect.

right now I'm running it in the garage with no intake arm on it, def not the air filter being blocked fuel filter is in the tank, I'm pretty certain it's getting plenty of fuel since the exhaust smells like fuel so much.

I checked the gap on the plugs before I put them in

nobody had touched the car but me, and I didn't unplug the tps and map at the same time.If they are swapped it happened a looooong time ago

I'm gonna go check for a vac leak. that sounds like it could be the issue.

could it be a bad tank of gas? this started shortly after i filled up. How could I test that? anything other than draining the tank and filling it up with new gas?

I sprayed down all the hoses with soapy water and did not see any vac leaks

PGM-FI relay and circuit checks out according to the test procedure in the helms

I'm reaching for anything now....

No trouble codes stored? EGR valve hanging open?

BINGO! thanks as soon as I pulled it off I saw a small rock or something in there hanging it open. popped that out, cleaned it up and she runs like a champ

didn't have any DTCs cause i had pulled the battery cable off just the other day for some stereo stuff. Hadn't driven it enough to get one I guess.
