Genuine Honda Parts vs. Generic Auto Parts Store Brand
I've heard from different people from time to time say that when replacing parts such as a themostat or a head gasket you should always go with genuine honda replacement parts and to stay away from generic auto store brand replacement parts. Could anyone tell me if this is something I should put a lot of faith in or just buy the generic parts?
Any thoughts would be appreciated, Thanks

Genuine Honda Parts is very expensive, however from experience the fittment of the part you buy like gaskets and sensors is always going to fit because its OEM. Parts from Kragen or any other part stores its not guarantee that the part is going to fit perfectly or going to work. Bottom line Honda Parts are going to be expensive however the guarantee that the part is going to fit will almost be 100%. Buying parts from parts store is going to be a lot cheaper however the guarantee that the part is going to fit or work is not always going to be guarantee. You get what you pay for.

Exactly. Aftermarket OEM replacement parts MAY be good (but are not necessarily). However, you KNOW that Honda parts will be good.

I see alot of problems with aftermarket parts on Hondas, I dont reccomend them for the most part. Alternators, starters, distributors, spark plugs, plug wires, dist caps and rotor buttons are what I see the most. Customers say: "but I just replaced it" you replace it with a bad one. LOL See alot of noisy aftermarket brake pads too.

My thoughts exactlly. A couple years back when I got a new aftermarket distibutor, it ran like **** until I swapped it out with a used oem distibutor and ever since I haven't had a problem.

i bought a generic thermostat and gasket... it ended up not fitting. i had to wait 3 days for a honda thermostat and gasket. i also had an aftermarket axle that wouldnt work. same length, and same number of splines, but it just wouldnt work. other than that i have bought everything aftermarket, with no complaints. and i recommend genuine honda distributors, because both of the aftermarket ones ive used have sucked.

About the brake pads .... aftermarket EBC Greenstuff is da bomb!!
I was amazed how much difference it made. Thats one of the only important parts that I use aftermarket on.

Be sure to babysit your Honda dealer, mine messes stuff up constantly, like selling twice as much MTF as I needed or giving me the wrong belt. Also, I asked to purchase some Genuine Honda Oil and he told me that they get their's at O'Reilley's. Up yours Jay Wolfe Honda!
