Default Is it bad to put warm water on a over heated engine?

my friend and i have to different opinons on this matter and i would like to figure it out. please answer and leave a reason why or why not! that would help me a lot!!!

if the water temp and the engine temp differ too much and you put alot of water on/in it it could crack your block...

and you can bet ur *** the engine temp is a hellavu lot higher then the "warm" water temp

I would hazard to say that pouring ANY water on an overheated engine is like the last thing you would want to do. It's not going to cool it off, it's just going to make a mess and maybe warp it (worse than it already is).

it certainly wouldn't help it, if there is to much of a temp dfference, it could crack your block.

I would have to say that rapidly changing the temperature of something s more dangerous than just heating it.
