Is there any easy way to loosen the timing belt w/o taking it all apart?
I have a 94 accord w/ a JDM h22
At some point during the winter, when it was really cold, I got ice all over the top of the motor (vented hood) and I tried to start it. Long story short, the timing belt jumped five teeth on each cam gear. I have 2 piece cam gears, so I thought I would save myself a trip to the mechanic by having someone hold tension on the timing belt while I separated each cam gear, rotated it back and reattached it.
I got all that done and it starts and runs fine except for a whine coming from the timing belt area that gets louder as RPMs go up. The belt is EXTREMELY tight. So much so there is NO PLAY in the belt whatsoever, even on the long side after the exhaust cam gear. This is my dilemma.
Is there some way to loosen the timing belt w/o basically changing out the whole thing? I would take it somewhere, but just recently there is no longer anyone in my town who will work on my car since it's a hybrid, and I don feel very comfortable doing the work myself (I hear timing is important). Now I see why people switch to the manual tensioner.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

yep, manual tensioner. you can't adjust the auto tensioner. you can swap tensioners or swap belts (longer one), but you should have some play in the belt. too tight=more likely to break.
with your auto tensioner on the h22 you also have a maintanence bolt. it is above the idler pulley bolt. it has the cotter pin in it. back that out until it stops. do not try to take the bolt all the way out. it has a stop for a reason. this will give you some slack.
