Default PANTS!!!

Why this impression that you're ok with a helmet, jacket, and gloves? Why does everyone ignore pants and boots?

Fact is jeans are worthless in a crash a speed, yeah, they might last a couple feet, but then it's skin on pavement. Also, when you crash you're lower body takes a lot of the slide, at a minimum as much as your upper body, so why not protect it as well?

It's very easy to sustain a debilatating injury to your feet. For example, if your heel is damaged too much, if you want to have any hope of walking normally you'll need to have your leg amputated below the knee. Also, think about how difficult it would be to recover from have you ankle bone ground down (yup, it's one of your contact points). Also, shoes and hiking boots simply aren't going to stay put in an accident. It's very common for a wrecked rider to end up barefoot if their wearing just sneakers.

If you're goign to budget for a jacket and gloves, actually go and protect yourself the way should should and buy pants and boots as well.

Not everyone ignores pants and boots. I don't. I always wear my sidi (vert 2's) boots along with all the other stuff (leather jacket, helmet, gloves, back pro, ear plugs). I will admit that I don't always wear my overpants though.

when i use my bike for 'transportation' (yea yea i know) lets say half a mile down the road to a friends, i will always wear my leather jacket, gloves, and helmet, but only when i go out 'riding' for more than 10 mins will i suit up with leathers and boots. I wish i wore them more often, but its just not practical.

now with my car almost finished and running, i think anytime i suit up for the bike, (seeing how i'll have two forms of transportation now) will be full gear.

I invested in both Icon boots and pants...very nice gear and doesn't look like your racing at the Moto GP when you need to stop off at the mall or grab a bite to eat.
