code 21 vtec solenoid help!!!
first off my car is a 88 hatch d16z6 swapp.....problem is im getting code 21...which is vtec solenoid...i need help figuring this out...whats causing the problem...can ne one help me...
check your wiring... And you should have searched. Look in the FAQ sticky at the top for a post that says something about codes and you can look through there and find your code and you can find scans of the manual that tells you how to fix your problem step by step. It helps a lot. If you think your wiring might be wrong you might want to search h-t and google too for some diagrams and pin-outs. Color coded pin-outs help a lot.
yea thats real helpful....ne one else? i want to know wuts causing the problem...if it is the wiring...i have only one wire going from the solenoid to the ecu.....what else can cause the problem? is it cuz i have to change my oil...i cleaned the solenoid....could it be a bad solenoid?
ummmmmmm.......yeah you do need it to be hooked up... cause if you just have one of those two hooked up then that might be the reason why you are gettin that cel.... how did you convert to obd1

wait a minute what are you trying to say.... what im saying is that there are "TWO" plugs from the vtec solenoid "BOTH the black and green" need to be hooked up...to the ecu... if they arent "BOTH" hooked up then therefore you have a cel... maybe on of your plugs broke... most likely the green one if so you need a new solenoid
im just getting code 21 not code 22...i have chipped p28 ecu....obd0-obd1 conversion harness....vtec solenoid (green wire) to the ecu and the black one to nothing its not grounded at all...ive cleaned out the screen on the valve....where can i hook up the black wire....

Recheck your wiring. The single wire connector is the solenoid. The 2-wire connector is the presure switch. All three wires should run to their designated ECU pins.

To check your vtec solenoid, run 12v directly to it, if it does not click on then its bad ( but thats very unlikly )
Also check over your wiring, make sure there are no opens in the circuit. Make sure its going to the right connector

Some vtec solenoids do not come with the vtec pressure switch. Some do some don't, that could be one of the reasons

ok i figured out that my wires were crossed...on the conversion harness that i have it has 2 wires for vtec....1 wire(black) goes to the solenoid and 1 wire(green) goes to the pressure switch...my homeboy had 1 green wire going to the solenoid and the black to nothing....so re-wired it so that the green is grounded and the black is wired to the solenoid....but after i reseted the ecu...im getting no code 21 but code 22 now....but i have the wire grounded....how come im still getting this code?

where does the vtec solenoid wire run to the ecu?</TD></TR></TABLE>
I guess you don't really take advice good, people have told you to search and you would already have been done.

Um the black wire goes to the pressure switch that you don't have. The green/white wire goes to the vtec solenoid and then back to the ecu. Thats why your still throwing a code.
And there should be 2 wires for the vtec oil pressure switch
A blue/black and a black, they both should run back to the ecu. Do it right and get the solenoid that has the pressure switch in there

no i have instructions from where i bought the conversion harness...says that green goes to the pressure switch and black goes to the solenoid...wut u r sayn is what my homeboy did which he had it black going to nothin and green to solenoid but i re read the instructions and it said green to oil pressure switch and black to solenoid....which i did....but now getting code 22...i dont have a switch/plug so is there a way to wire up the green wire to something to get rid of code 22??

Well then the instructions suck, because everyone knows that black is 99% of the time ground. And there is no way around not wiring the solenoid, go get the plug and stop half assing it.
People wonder why they blow **** up or are throwing codes, because its not done the right way the first time.
