difference between Greedy and Drag turbo kits?
I was just wondering what makes the Greddy turbo kits "legal" and the drag kits not?
If you want a breakdown in the "Actual" differences, here you go:
Drag -vs- Greddy
Manifold: Cast -vs- Cast
Flange on Manifold: T3 -vs- T25
Turbo: T3/T04E -vs- TD05 18G
Wastegate: External -vs- Internal
Fuel Management: 12.0:1 FMU w/ inline fuel pump -vs- Blue Box w/ 310cc injectors
Intercooler: Front Mount -vs- Optional Front Mount
BOV: HKS Super Sequential -vs- Optional
Piping: Chrome IC Piping -vs- Silver Painted IC Piping
Turbo Inlet Filter: Yes -vs- Yes
Downpipe: Yes -vs- Yes
If i'm not mistaken, the DRAG kit comes with a larger DP too
I know what the phyisical differences are. But I was wondering what makes them Carb legal and not carb legal. Kind of like what integracon said "Also, I've heard that if you add an intercooler or switch to an external wastegate, your kit is no longer CARB legal, is that true?". I dont really see what difference that would make. If it has an ic or not or if you use an external wg. As long as its still a closed loop system why would it matter? You wouldnt really be changing the emissions that its putting out. I dont know I was just curious.
I feel sorry for the people in the states that have emissions. Its all a bunch of bull kaka. I live in Nebraska and we dont have any emissions laws. I can see the good in the laws but I think that they should only affect what is actually comming out of your tail pipes and not what you have done to your engine.
I think with proper tuning and such you could have a car that puts out less pollutiants than some of the non modified cars and still make alot of power.

To receive a CARB exemption, you must put your product through thorough and costly testing. After several tens of thousands of dollars, your product may earn its CARB exemption.
Once you install the product, you must not change anything for it to remain exempt. For example, with a Greddy turbo kit, if you install the kit and replace the turbo with a larger unit your kit is technically no longer exempt. Hope that makes sense.

Off the top of my head, anything with a BOV that vents to open atmosphere will never be CARB legal due to the breather hose on the intake which lets oil vapor out.

Greddy: less lag ~ less top-end hp.. more mid range power ~ turbo can support 340whp
