Default J.D Power reliability, help please!

Hi, I am still in the process of buying my first lude (which will either be a 2000 or 2001 model, standard). My dad's a bit of a car guy himself and he is kind of strict on getting a good car (wear and tear, km's, rust, etc..). I found a nice 2000 NBP type SH that I want... but then he pointed out this to me:

http://www.edmunds.com/used/20....html

It shows that the 2000 model years long term Mechanical Dependability is rated as "2", where the 1999 is rated "4", as well as the 2001 also a "4". I thought that the 5th gen model years were nearly identical... Is there something I should know about the 2000 models? seems kind of random to me. Don't want this to prevent me from getting my car..

Thanks much,

Dan

They are nearly identical.

I wouldn't worry about it, it's a Honda after all. Also the H22 was around for a long time and they got all the major problems out.

One of the biggest issues is with the 5th gen auto tranny. Do a search on it....I'm swapping mine out for a 5spd July 18th....can't wait.

Tabris,
I bought a 2000 Prelude this summer, it runs amazing... with the one well documented issue of burning oil.

That entire thing is bullsh*t. It's relatively well known that toward the end of its production cycle the manufacturer will not invest extra money making it a hair more reliable. So why does EVERY SINGLE YEAR have a variation of like 2-3 points across the long term reliability? It doesn't make any sense and I woudln't bother w/ reading into that at all. I'm currently at 100k+ miles and the only thing that I've had to do w/ the car is locate and stop the squeaks along with changing the oil. Haven't had to do much else.

JDPOWER is just weird with certain years. It's like that for many cars. I think they just don't have their **** straight. If all the other years are fine, you can't go wrong. The 4th gens have 5 star reliability ratings (at least my 1995 does). Bottom line is you can't go wrong with a Honda at all.

Yeah.. as said above, it doesnt really make sense to me either. Who knows what skewed the ratings.

Well.. I think I should be the proud owner of a NBP 2000 type SH within a couple weeks. I'm so exited!! Iv'e Waited so long to get a prelude... :D
