I'm lookin to turbo a d16 stock block (only modification is 450cc injectors and turbo manifold) and lookin for a ball bearing turbo that spools around 3.8-4-2k that can do 10psi easy, heard greddy has some that should work well, but wanted to get your guys opinon.

Still havn't decided on internal or external wastegate as of yet. Doing a home made turbo setup and the choice in turbo's is crazy.

 

Greddy doesnt make a ball bearing turbo i dont belive...

all d16's have proven to make decent power. However you are gonna need more than just 450cc, your gonna need a way to control them, ie hondata, uberdata, aem, v-afc hack whatever. Timing needs to be addressed as well, all the engine management above will do that as well the msd with boost retard or by just manually retarding the whole map at the distributor a few degrees. Theres alot involved with a reliable homemade turbo setup. I could go on for awhile but rather not. As for the turbo forget about the ball bearing, just get something sized right for that motor and spoolup will be fine, i recommend the dsm 14b, t25, small 16g, vw ko3, volvo t3 are to name a few. good luck

already ordered the stuff to chip my ecu for uberdata and looking for wideband kit so tunning won't be a issue, as for the turbo's geesh there is so many , hard to get a grasp of pro's and con's of all of them, plus not sure i want to grab a junkyard turbo and have oil leak and shaft play problems in the future.

 

yeah i hear you, getting a used turbo is taking a chance, but usually the price is right even if it doesn't last long. Most junkyard turbos range from 50-150. If your intrested in the mitsubishi turbo line, try http://www.mitsubishigraveyard.com/ I can almost gurantee you he would not sell you a bad used turbo, my friends having been batting 1000 with that guy. I have no personal experience, but whenever i need another used turbo that will be my first stop.

 

yea, greddy kit can do that easily its a small 15g that they make for d seires. but you could go with like a t28 and be cool.

 

GT25, GT28, Apex'i kit...those are all ball bearing turbos which would work great. Greddy sohc kit (which isnt ball beraing) but it spools SUPER fast.

t25,14b,16g,t3 would also work for your application - and spool very quick.

Depends how much you want to spend and the horsepower you want to make at the 10psi you said you want to run...

If you have lots of money, go with the GT28RS , if not, I would go with the good old 60 trim T3 .48/.60, you can find them for cheap either new or rebuilt.

Both the 60 trim T3 and the GT28RS will reach 10psi below 4k and pull hard till the redline, the GT series turbo is ball bearing but the T3 is not.
