Default Hytech header owners...

How difficult was it for you to get the lower part of the header to slip into the upper portion?

New Questions:

Are the springs that go between the upper & lower portions of the header mandatory.

What car & year are you running, and are you running a A/C compressor? My 94 LS compressor will not allow the hytech header to fit by like 1/4"

Anyone know if the A/C compressors changed in size throughout the years of the 3rd generation Integra?

Took a bit of playing around but it went in, in about 10-15 minutes or so.

Did it slide easily after a bit or did it fight all the way through?

did you get springs with your's? Mine didn't include any, and I wasn't sure if they were mandatory.

Where the 2 parts of the header slide together, there are these mounts... I saw that some header use springs that attach to these..

Most slip fits are normally tight if expanded properly.

You have to remember this is thin gage tubing probably .065 wall thickness so during shipping they may have hot out of round so look at them and check for that they may need a little tapping with a hammer.

Otherwise just line them all up the best you can maybe use zipties to hold them in a little closer if need be and slip away

I got them to slip together... I thought maybe the constant movement and vibration of the cat+b-pipe might slowly pull it out...

KY Jelly or Astroglide should make it easier to fit together

I was too embarrassed to buy that stuff at the store, so I settled for some anti-seize... after I got the pipes on the top part to line up with all the pipes on the lower portion, I bent it over and banged it against the floor (carpet). It was screaming for more... but once I got it all the way in, I stopped.

I dont think that you need springs. It doesn't flex so you wouldn't need it(like header and cat). Just use the bolts and washers that John sent you. Tighten it when installing and retighten a week later and you should be good. If you want use some loctite.

I don't have any of those springs that hold the 2 parts of the header together, so it's going on as is... I'll just keep an eye on it. John is out of the office until June, so I'll find out if he thinks they are mandatory...

I put some soap on each end of the header and it wiggles right on and the soap and water will burn off so now harm there....

the two long bolts and nuts, just go to a hardware store...

sorry for the bad picture i took it from my cell phone.

are these the bolts that your missing? To answer your message you sent to me, mines did come with them. If yours didn't come with them you should call hytech and have them sent to you since they seemed to forgot to give them to you. As for you question about using your two bolts that has the spring connected to the cat, I recieved bolts from them. I have not used them since i had bolts from the package. But some how i misplaced them so i went to hardwar and just went and bought some bolts.

I'm actually in the market for some headers because mine just broke so I've got to get some new ones ASAP. I've heard that Hytech are some of the best available but the only one I could find for the ITR is $1300. This seemed pretty expensive for a header so is that quote accurate? What are some other good aftermarket headers? Thanks!

SMSP (~1100), AN-R (~700?), and many many lower cost (and lower quality) ones - you get what you pay for.

John sent me a set of bolts but I guess I didn't tighten them enough and they fell off someplace. I did notice a bit of exhaust leat as I found a bit of carbon build up around the slip joint. However, a trip to Lowes for some bolts, nuts, a some Locktite, it's good to go.
