Default head gasket

im almost ready to put the head back on the car and was wondering if the type of head gasket really made any difference...i have a jdm b16a with pretty much every bolt on...and vafc..i recently built the head with supertech valvetrain and sk2s2 cams...now i was told that i should be running at least 11.0:1 to use these cams to there full potential...i know the stock c/r is 10.2:1 will resurfacing the head and using flat top valve bump it up a little bit...kinda got off topic but whats the deal about taking out the middle layer of an oem headgasket?? ne benefit? proper way to do it...or is a cometic one better

taking out the middle layer of the oem gasket will make your gasket thinner thus inc reasing compression, milling will also have the same effect, but remember when you do things like this you're bringing the valves that much closer to the piston... flat top valves will also bump compression...i think you should invest in some other higher cr pistons instead of shaving the head or using a thin headgasket.... especially since you have a b16

i didnt surface the head to raise comp...just to even it out

so is there any real difference between a 3 layer oem HG or a cometic 3 layer HG?

how much will taking out the middle layer bump cr??

i agree with going higher cr pistons...but im not trying to touch the block until i have to...

im not sure how thick the middle layer of the hg is, if you meaure it then you can calcuate how much compression you will gain.... but im guessing close to 10.5 w/ the middle removed...also if you had flat top valves... it should be around 10.7-10.8
