4 wheel steering
I have one. I love it.
Just know that 88-91 Preludes had a mechanical 4WS mechanism where the 92-94 4WS had an electronic setup.
I did have an issue with the 4WS. I replaced the 4WS ECU and it works fine now. This is pretty common with 92 4WS Preludes. 93 and 94 seem fine.
Other than that, the car is as reliable as a non 4WS Prelude.
4WS does make the most noticeable difference in the parking lot. Plus, everyone is amazed when I show them how the rear wheels turn.

I had a 3rd gen (1990) prelude with 4ws, which was mechanical however had a tighter turning radius than the 4th gens, which is why I opted for the vtec for my second lude, however having the 4ws was awesome and I do miss it, many times I have thought about adding it, but I know it would be a bitch

only slow people are concerned about this kinda ****

I love it (; - but yea mostly for parking lots and what not, with the jdm h22a swap i feel I have the best of both worlds - my 4ws was initally intermittent but i followed wstef's advice/procedure, and it fixed it right up. the write-up on the easy fix can be found on these boards.
sorry to also jack - but i was just curious what all you 4ws'ers do for alignment jobs? do you find most shops can handle it? or do you take it in to honda? i'm curious cuz as of recently i'm lowered, and want to get it done asap.
cheers.

i like 4ws also at higher speeds. With the rear wheels going slightly parallel at higher speeds i feel it really reduces body roll. I cant imagine driving my lude with out it.

4WS is fantastic on a track, too, hairpin turns are just great with it, and you can even throw the car into a small drift (beware of the turn exit though... ), and fast curves are taken at amazing speeds, i overtook lighter cars in those, again the 4WS influence was felt (less understeer at high speeds).
For alignment i found out that regular shops don't know anything about it, they're quite confused and end up misaligning everything. The 4WS alignment procedure is very specific (on 4th and 5th gens, the electronic one) thus it's better to go at Honda's as they know how to do it.

I like it because there are VERY few cars like it. Look at the HICAS system in the 240SX. That thing couldn't stand the test of time. I don't hear much about the Celica 4WS system.
Yes, having VTEC and 4WS adds to the uniqueness of the car.

No, they only discontinued it in the US, as far as I know. This was due to poor sales. The 4WS Si cost as much as the VTEC model. The rest of the World had the 4WS system from 88-2001. In fact, you could get the 4WS system in the VTEC model too.
I am curious as to why we didnt get jack **** in the US. No VTEC 4WS, no Type-S model, no ITR square lights, no nice steering wheels, no nice seats, etc, etc, etc. Did it cost that much extra have those things in various models imported as they were to Europe and the rest of the world? Kinda makes me angry.

There isn't a market for it here. There is much more demand for high performance cars in other countries than we have here in the US. Plus, many of the performance cars that we didn't get are because they don't meet our safety/emission laws.
Trust me, there is a reason for everything.

I am not sure how much they cost in US dollars but just to give you an idea why we rarely got the nice version of the car, back in the early 90's the RX-7, Supra, and 300ZX did not sell well at all. That's why they stopped bringing them here. These cars were still being produced in the rest of the World until recently.
Now, the demand for perfomance cars is increasing and that's why we finally got the real M3 (yes, the E36 M3 was not the real M3. Europe got the real version), Evo 8, Sti, Type R, etc. I think we will continue getting the nicer versions since the demand for aftermarket parts is BOOMING!! Kids will still want fast new cars when their current cars die. We should see some cool cars in the future.

I just bought a 4ws prelude w/ a blown motor and am going to get an h22 for it. call me dumb for asking becauise i doubt it, but will adding the h22 with the new h22 harness cause problems w/ 4ws? there aren't any special sensors near the motor for 4ws right?

Nope, the 4WS will not be affected.
