Get a replacment key from Honda dealer?
I only have one key to my car but want to get an extra one made. Anyway the Acura dealer is like 30 minutes from me but a Honda dealer is right down the street. Anyway does anyone know if I can get a key for my R at the Honda dealership. BTW its a 2001 so it has the immobilizer. I tried to IM Len but he has disabled his IM's. Thanks for the help.
I really doubt it. Unless you know EXACTLY what you're looking for, the Honda dealers won't give you the time of day.
They don't have the database of VIN codes to key immobilizers for Acuras, so I'd say you're stuck with Acura.

Oh yeah, well derp, if you call you can get a straight answer (likely no) rather than 20 guesses.

I did this for my car...no real problems. They just called the Acura dealer for the key code, and everything was fine from there. I think it was around $6 total.

I have a Honda dealer right down the road from me, I took my keys there for my other acuras and they copied them for me, but these are pre immobilzer. I couldnt see why they couldnt do it, all they do is put a key in a machine copy the pattern and reburn it.
getting on the phone may cause no results because one must prove their identity before getting a key cut. think about it, joe blow calls and provides vin + false identification (owner of vehicle so it matches), then he can have a key where stealing the car is made that much easier.
call to see what you can do because of your situation, but it may be difficult.

That is for a 97-98 R which doesn't have an immobilizer. I have a 2001 so that key wont do anything for me.

That's no big deal. I will just go down on my lunch break and check it out. I was just wondering if anybody else has done it. To be honest I want it just to have a Honda key.
I do need a back up so it does have a purpose too.

It's like $40+ for a key with the imobilizer from the stealerships. Damn 40 bucks for a damn key.

To answer, yes the honda dealer can program a key to your car you may have to buy the key with a H on it.
If they use the T5 key they will just copy the immobilizer key you have and it will work for your car without them even touching it.
