Hybrid V6 Accord?:???
I was thinking about the new hybrid V6 Accord? has anyone had any experience of heard anything about them? Good or Bad it doesn't matter, just wanna make sure i know what im buyin
i've heard only good things about them, only bad thing i've heard is that they're a lil bit heavier than the non-hybrids. whats not to like about a hybrid-V6 that runs 14's?
it's a hybrid, ULEV car. who cares if it has an automatic transmission? it's meant to be a cushy daily driver.
it's heavier because of the IMA batteries.
it's expensive because it can be. the car is flippin sweet. great power, great gas milage, great styling, great interior, and great reliability.
spending 30 grand on that car will end up saving you TONS of money in the long run -- even just in gas.
i will be buying one in the next year or two. my wife and i are having a baby, so my 3G accord has to go.

That's the common misonception... purchasing a hybrid will save you money. Hardly.
The money that you save in gas will easily be outstripped by the increase in monthly payments because of the premium that comes along with having a hybrid. Most hybrids, even with gas costing $2.50/gallon, requires about 5 years before the savings in gas equals the premium cost. No one really knows how much it would cost to replace batteries out of warranty, but it's definitely going to be expensive.
Hybrids are overrated. A Hybrid Accord still produces the same emissions as a regular V6 accord. People don't realize that the little emissions, if any, that are saved in ehaust are easily cancelled out by the amount of pollution that will result from batteries being disposed improperly, which is very likely to happen to many hybrids.
The only real reason why you would get a hybrid is because you think a hybrid is cool/fashionable. If you really cared about the environment, you'd just get a 4 cynlinder Accord.

I dont think so, they did more than just slap an electric motor on it. The variable cylinder management system is interesting. While a v6 model is cruising along on all 6 cylinders, the hybrid runs on three when it doesn't need them all. And what about the idle stop function? When a regular v6 is sitting at a stop light using gas, the hybrid shuts off until you take your foot off the brake.

That's a possiblity but to say the only reason you'd get a hybrid is to be cool/fashionable is hardly fact. To go on about hybrids in general, I really don't think 11,000+ people pre-paid for the new Lexus RX400h because they thought it was cool and fashionable.

i don't plan on paying for the car in monthly payments either. i will be purchasing the car with cash and with that comes a lot of bargaining power. even financed v6 hybrids roll off the dealer lots for under 28k.
variable cylinder management and idle-stop substantially reduces emissions over a regular V6 hybrid. beyond that, the car is more efficient. even if the hybrid put out the exact same emissions as the regular V6, it would still be less in the long run because the hybrid goes farther on less gas. you have to fill up the hybrid less than the regular v6, which means you're burning less and emitting less.
disposal of the batteries is a good point, though. Most people that will buy the hyrbids are the kinds of people that take their car to the dealer for oil changes, so i think the vast majority of hybrid batteries will be disposed of properly.
to say that a hybrid has no environmental or monetary benefits is just silly. car companies wouldn't all be spending MILLIONS to develop a completely new technology to be trendy.

Well my mom actually just bought one about 2 weeks ago and most dealers Ive talked to stated that they prefer you finance a car, so they make more money on the interest payments and such.
As for the car itself? What are you using it for? Its a GREAT family sedan if you can afford it. Compared to the regular 7th gen accord (which we also have), it is so much more quiet and smooth in terms of daily driving. As for speed, I would definitely say that it holds its own. As for aftermarket support, I dont forsee much. so if you're thinking about modding it extensively, dont go there
If you're thinking of buying one though, keep in mind that while the price tag is high, you get a 3000 dollar government tax credit to help out with the cost. And you get to ride in the carpool lane by yourself!

yeah, dealers and loan companies want you to finance it, but i have the cash, so they can go suck a toe.
i am buying it to be a family sedan. my fiancee is going to have our baby any day now and i just got a job in houston, tx. my job requires that i drive my own car around all over the city. traffic is horrible (which is why i won't mind the automatic tranny), gas prices are high, and it's effing hot during the summer. i didn't know about the HOV lane law, though... that's pretty cool! so long rush hour traffic on the belt way!
there's enough aftermarket support for it already since it uses the same base as the regular V6, although i won't mod it for a long long time -- if i mod it at all.
i'm pretty sure it's going to be one perfect daily driver for me and my family.

A plus side to owning one, you get a tax break at the end of the year from uncle sam for driving a hybrid car, my father in law's friend drives a Insight to work everyday, and got about $800 back this year on his tax return because of the car alone. And with the pollution problems increasing and the amount of people driving increasing, expect the future to be LARGE benefits through the government for driving the eco-friendly cars.
This isnt to say that the government isnt making their money...its obvious that the money we spend in the gas kind of cancels out alot of the pluses to owning a hybrid car, but your going to spend that gas money anyways, regardless of what you drive, you drive a regular V6 accord and your putting premium in it, your driving a hybrid and putting premium in it...the weight difference isnt going to amount to much, your going to burn about the same gas when using the gas motor...so any money or benefit you get afterwards is a plus, since its money you wouldnt get at all in any other situation.
One thing though that i dont really find attractive about the car is the fact that alot of info outlets are BOASTING the cars performance rating...if you drive the car to make it accelerate to a 1/4 in 14sec. or 0-60 in the 6's...well, your going to get awful gas mileage anyways, and then whats the point of buying the car? To say you have a hybrid that performs decent...that to me is the downside...because so many will be like "Oh sweet, i can run this..." and go dog their accord around, wasting more gas than they probobly would with your run of the mill 6cyl. accord.
Also (this is just a personal opinion) but looking to buy this car with the plans to modify it for performance reasons is just stupid. Sorry to say but thats just how i see it.

to me, having a hybrid that has some ***** is mainly important for traffic. sure you'll burn lots of gas while opening her up to redline, but sometimes you just have to.
here in texas, there are a lot off one-lane hiways through the country and people tend to drive slow on them. so, you gotta pass them. try jumping up to 80+ mph in an insight to pass someone with traffic headed toward you in the other lane...
THAT's why i'm glad the v6 hybrid has some usable power. 90% of the driving will be gas-saving driving, but it will be nice to have an efficient car that can jump up in speed to pass on the hiway or enter busy hiways, etc.

Sure its nice to have some pep, that wasnt the point though, magazines and reviewers are getting into the habit to focus on the fact that the car can run blah blah blah in the 1/4 and yadda yadda yadda 0-60. Why? I mean its cool from a technical standpoint to know how a car performs, but then you have all these people that jump on the bandwagon talking about how they want to get one, then you get to the point of people wanting to turbo charge them and supercharge them and put i/h/e on them and blah blah blah blah blah...its just silly, the ******* car is a hybrid eco friendly car, yet people see "positive" marks in the performance department and next thing you know you have people talking about how the hybrid can outrun this and that, and how with an exhaust it would do this and that.
Its just silly. But i guess it was inevitable...given how their focusing more on power output and performance in reviews than the economical and enviormental pluses this car provides.

So you dont like the car because of the way people are talking about it? LOL
When you get fuel efficiency and power combined in one car, that's something to go on about. The gas mileage of a Civic and more horsepower than a regular V6 is f-ing cool! If you've driven one of them the extra power is noticeable all through the power band.

well let me just tell you that my mom commutes to and from work as well...she says its about 15-18 miles...in the mornings it used to take her 40-45 mins due to the horrible LA traffic. Now with the hybrid she is taking the carpool lane and it takes her 20 mins tops. In addition to that, she only fills up the tank every 3-4 weeks, maybe it wont save you enough money to justify the cost of the car...but boy is that satisfying...
im planning on taking it out to vegas this weekend to see the REAL gas mileage

No, i never said i didnt like the car, i just said i thought it was silly that was the focusing factor of the car, the performance figures on a car that by all real terms of "performance" really isnt impressive (i mean 14's are cool for the car, but still, its like saying "WOW, this truck runs 15's in the 1/4, for a truck under $35,000, thats impressive!" i mean yeah, cool, but lets talk about what really gets this thing in people's garage over the regular V6 accord.
Nothing against the car at all...i think its rather impressive, im looking forward to seeing what honda does with its hybrid engines in the future, since they seem to have figured out a way to retain performance with ecofriendliness, perhaps F1 that uses half the gas and we can finally take out renault and ferrari.
