Forced Induction woes
after reading this post and many others i am discouraged about turboing or supercharging my jdm d15b. https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1256571. I read that he used a base map and he still blew up his motor. My question is how safe is decent base map and what other things should i be careful of so i don't blow my motor. I am looking for about 170-180whp and another 100k out of my freshly swapped motor.
Thanks for the support

A basemap is like grilling a steak.
One guy makes a really good steak every time
One guy on his "lucky" day makes an ok steak.
One guy buys a barbeque and tells his neighbor he knows how to grill steak.
That's the safety in picking a steak griller, and in making basemaps. Don't let the new barbeque owner discourage you.
Go with someone who knows what he's doing, not someone who has the ability to do it.

I also forgot to ask if getting a wideband and street tuning for a first time turbo is a good idea. Is it possible to datalog and wideband tune at your house with a romburner.
I have been tuning mine on the street using a wideband, and Uberdata and burning my own chips. I wont even consider a dyno until I get it close to tuned and at that time, I will do my own tuning.
I have heard too many stories about blown motors from "tuners" my neighbor had two blown in less than a month and both were tuned on Hondata by a local shop. I would suggest doing your own research and learning how to do it yourself. However, I am that way about all of my stuff-there are just too many idiots out there trying to take your money and dont give a crap if they ruin your car.

I feel the same way. done all my own work. never been to a shop ever. I have been reading about 2-3 hours a night for 2 months about forced induction and gone back and forth between turbo, supercharge, and nitrous. Thanks for your opinion. Is innovative wideband a decent brand for a wb 02.
thanks

I do not know enough about the Innovative to answer that question. I borrowed a Techedge from a friend and it worked perfectly with my Uberdata. I did have problems getting it to datalog but that was in my computer settings. I am still using it.
Try this link for turbo information. I put it up all of the time and it was a good resource for me to do some research-probably because the author is just a regular guy who did some research and he is not selling anything. Hope it helps
