What Downpipe Materials Did YOU Use???
Basically ive got 94+ teg and i need to buy the proper piping to make my downpipe. ive got a pretty good idea of which bends and angles ill need, just wanting to see what others have used.
any pictures or info would be a great help... oh yeah, with the exhaust housing coming off the drivers side, thanks

I bought 2 90 degree bends, and that was all I needed. . . I just mocked them up and drew the angle I needed on it. . . then sawzall. (all at 2 am in the garage of my old apartment complex

basicly you buy a straight peice, its much cheaper too, and cut triangles and position, tack and weld. its much easier than it looks. this was my first time doing this... this is how i'm gonna do it from now on.
1 U-bend is suffice for you to mock up a downpipe. From that U pipe, youll only need to cut up 3 pieces and weld. Obviously more expensive than a straight pipe, but if you wont have to worry about cutting up a bunch of pieces.
The U-Bend will also have smoother transition and provide a better/smoother path for the exhaust to flow through.... The cut and paste method tends to cause unneccesary turbulance in the exhaust flow, which ultimately equates to having exhaust back pressure, which can lead to longer spool times...

I want to do this for my DP.. About how wide are those triangles? (at the narrow and wide side?)
Thanks

i use http://www.vertexnow.com for my stainless bends. Depending on the manifold, you'll probably need 2-3 bends to make one.
I bought 1 U-bend from Kteller and amazingly that's all I needed. I also bought I bunch of straight pipe for the rest of the exhaust, but that part was easy. I also used a 2.5" to 3" flange type thing I bought from Brood for like $17 shipped.

ive got the o2 bung, so thats covered, and im going to run a 3" downpipe.
so youre saying that all ill need is one u 3" ubend? is that going to be enough to go from the driver side down and around?

exactly. hoping to see some pics of other peoples downpipes coming from the drivers side...

haha... that gave me a good chuckle. ok buddy, more power to you!
sometimes regular mandrel bends don't come tight enough for an application, and thats when these custom bends come handy... if you pay attention... race crews have been using this type of bend probably longer than mandrel has been around.
Whatever... i'm low budget.

you can make them any size you want, the more triangles give it a more cosmeticly smooth appearance... but even on my downpipe, after its welded up, the actual bend on the inside is smooth as butter. works good enough to spool up my big *** turbo on a SOHC.

Vertexnow is little expensive when it comes to their tube OD 90's. Their price: $19.38 vs our price: $17.95.

actually now that i think about it....
i believe it is a 2.5" with a burns flare to 3" after the flex pipe.
but it has a 4 bolt exhaust flange, flex pipe, and then flare to 3"
ill pick it up and you can look at it.
