Default .: $80 rebate on Dunlop SP Sport Maxx tires :.

I wanted to give everyone a heads up on a promotion we're running on our top-of-the-line, max-performance tire. The SP Sport Maxx is positioned and priced to compete with the Michelin PS2, Bridgestone S0-3, and Goodyear Eagle F1-D3. From now until 07.05.2005, Dunlop is offering an $80 mail-in-rebate when you buy 4 SP Sport Maxx tires. The rebate form is available on Dunlop's website...

As a tire designer and engineer, I would not put the Kumho MX, Toyo TS-1, Falkens or Hankooks in the same category as the PS2, S0-3, F1-D3, & Sport Maxx, which are more technologically advanced tires in my opinion.

The Dunlop SP Sport Maxx recently beat out the S0-3 and PZero Rosso in a head-to-head test on the Tire Rack.

I have also gotten the opportunity to drive the Sport Maxx on a BMW 330i on Dunlop's test track. I was impressed with the overall grip of the tire. It was very controllable and predictable. The tire held up very well after our group hammered on it around the auto-x style course that afternoon. Overall, everyone was very impressed.

If you have any questions about sizing, pricing, availability, or anything else, please let me know!

Thanks,

Matt

Any plans for the SP Sport Maxx to be available in 15" sizes?

None that I am aware of between now and the end of the year. For now, the 15" segment will be populated by the new Dunlop Direzza.

Let me know if you have other questions

How about sizes with a lower aspect ratio (40 or 45) for 16" tires? 205/40-16, 205/45-16, and 215/45-16 seem to be the most popular sizes that Honda/Acura owners with 16" wheels seem to be using...

Can you comment on the Dunlop Direzza tires?

I recently saw them on Tirerack's website and the user reviews and price make the tire sound pretty appealing. I will be in need of new tire in about 2 months, so I'm trying to narrow down my choices before hand.

Just some FYI...which may will help with my decision. I have a '94 GS-R with Koni single-adjustable shocks, Eibach Prokit springs, Type-R rear swaybar and Yokohama AVSi 205/50-15 tires on the stock rims. The tires that I will be purchasing will be for 100% street use (ie. no track time, autox, etc.).

I am very pleased with the Yokohama AVSi tires (this is my second set) and I also had a set of Dunlop SP8000 tires, which I also liked a lot.

I'm currently trying to decide between the Dunlop Direzza and the Yokohama ES100.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

The Dunlop should give you better overall handling (steering response and cornering stability) and will also be quieter riding than the Yokohama. I like the Yoko for performance but it does tend to get noisy as it wears down.

It's also worth pointing out that you can get the ES100 in the stock 195/55-15 size for the GS-R. The Dunlop is only available in 205/50-15, so with that tire, your speedometer and odometer will read higher by 1.6 percent as a result.

I have narrowed my tire choices down to two tires: 195/50/15 Yoko AVS es100, or 205/50 Dunlop Dirrezzas. However i am leaning towards the yokos because of the overwhelming amount of praise for them. Honestly, for 100% street, which is the better tire(size considered)??

Thank You.

I think that's just because they've been on the market for a couple of years, and the Dunlops are new to the market.

I haven't driven the Dunlops so I really can't comment on the performance from personal experience. Matt says their performance is better than the ES100, and I know he's been spot-on with all his other advice, so I gotta believe him. The Dunlop also has a price advantage ($45.50 per tire after the rebate, vs $59 for the Yokohama). On the other hand, if your car's stock tire size is a better fit with the 195/50-15 than the 205/50-15, then that's an advantage for the ES100.

Bottom line: They're both excellent tires for the money, and I don't think you can go wrong with either one.
