Default why is Ducati?

why are these bikes so sought after? Im mean don't get me wrong, I've never ridden one so i ask the people who have, "whats so great about them?" from what I've read, they make less HP and weight a lot more then the jap bikes... I cant imagine the suspension being any better then the new GSXR and RR bikes whats the deal? that also goes for Aprilia as well...

I think because the Italians excel in making beautiful automobiles, this has lead to the novelty of Italian motorcycles as well and the reason they have a greater status than Japanese and domestic motorcycles.

I'm not so sure the bikes are just novelties as far as beauty is concerned.

Brembo, Ohlins, etc. all stock. Now I've never ridden one either, maybe ngng can chime in.

That being said I probably won't ever own one until I am fairly well off, but I have been tempted to pick up a late 90's 748 for the track.

so your saying performance wise, they aren't better, its just the fact that an Italian Sports Car just has a higher status just because it looks nice and its rare? I guess that's one kinda bike/car that's not for me... go over show, any day. no wait, to me show is go.

they dont make as much power per cc as japanese bikes. but handling wise they shine. like mentioned before. ohlins, brembo, all the good stuff. . as for 6000 mile valve adjustments .

they don't make as much power per cc, but honestly who can ride their 600 to it's max? i'd say very few everybody can go fast in a straight line, but that's not why we own bikes...is it?

i had an r6 before those, handling wise i love the duc. it wants to corner, you lean in and it does it effortlessly. i cant explain it in words, you have to ride one hard to know. not to mention it comes from the factory with great parts.

and it just sounds so sexy

It's also kinda not fair to compare twins to fours in terms of pure HP to CC.

Ducati are great bike manufacturers. They understand how to instill soul into a machine, and the connection between rider and bike is almost tangible with a Ducati. A Japanese bike, on the other hand, is quite capable, but in the end, it's just a tool.

Not all Ducati come with top-spec stuff. The purpose of the "Dark" models in the lineup is to pull in buyers who want a Ducati, but can't afford one. Or, pull a buyer away from a similarly priced Japanese motorcycle.

Are they worth the money? That depends on your personal preference. Riding my friend's 996, I haven't felt so connected to the road since. The amount of feedback was amazing. After riding it, I knew what the magazines were talking about when they would say, "You can pick a line, and stick to it." The stability in turns is just like all the reports and owners say it is. But, the riding position on the 916-style bike is insane for any sort of commuting.

I used to commute with my bike but I'm young, and invincible but yeah, long tiprs would suck on teh duc. It's funny, cause I tuck over the tank at like 25mph ;p

exotic suspension and midrange torque. racetrack pony. Also the maintenance costs to own give it something of a status symbol quality. Compare it to TVR or possibly lotus, not ferrari which is a good street car.

I've heard from friends and coworkers that Duc's are high maintenance. What and how much more maintenance would a Duc require over say an R6, Gixxer, or RR?

That's like asking why everyone wants to **** hot chicks. Yeah, they probably cost a little more and aren't necessarily the best ride out there... but just looking at them makes your dick hard.

The language was coarse, but the explanation was concise and accurate.

Maintenance isn't that much more, but parts are EXPENSIVE. Ridiculously so.

Ducati, as a company is first and foremost a racing company. They manufacture and sell bikes so that they can pay the bills to race.

Their bikes (as well as some other Italian makes) are considered to be exotic because they're production methods are much more hands-on. And some of the higher models tend to use much more exotic parts and materials. Cf, magnesium, Ohlins, etc. Plus, the design, who can argue that those Italians don't make some of the most beautiful things on earth? Bikes, clothes, paintings, girls..
