Default How much would a decent paint job run me?

What's going on? I'm new here. Just got a quick question. So I'm trying to get a paint job... I have a black car and just got a new bodykit with fenders... and I'm a big fan of the silver & blue or dark silver metallic paint on cars but I know that might be too expensive for me. Is Maaco or Earl Scheib worth it? Or look for individual shops to do this? How much would it cost to change the color and paint the whole car?

Sorry to hear about your car. A decent paint job would be around 1200.00 bucks maybe a little more. Color change doesnt matter becuase they just seal the old paint after they sand the clear off of it. I wouldnt take it to maaco or anything like that unless you only want your paintjob to last 10-12 months.

i was just talking to a painter out here in seattle, and the guy said starting at $8000 to $20000 depending on what you want, I was thinking silver and blue for my car too, but i have no where near enough money to paint my car so its staying that "champagne" color, why do you want to paint it, black would be more than fine by me

Everything in seattle seems to be so expensive...urgh

Too many people have black where I'm from. And I'm going for that dark silver with a black hood (Carbon Fiber later on). With the rims black, and housing in the head and tail lights.

Either you are lying or that guy is an *******. No one on earth pays more than 2500 for a paintjob. For 8k you could get 3-4 paintjobs. I cant believe he actually told you 8 to 20k. You could buy a new car for 8k let alone 20k. Did 20k for a paintjob strike you as a normal price?

please, DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS GUY

changing colors DOES MATTER, when you change color, if the change is drastic enough they have to sand down farther and start with a different shade of primer. Also if you are changing colors you will need to do door jams, trunk, engine bay, etc... all of these you can just leave if u are keeping your same color.

no one pays more then 2500 for a paint job? you must live in the maaco world. A GOOD Paint job where all the work is done for you will be 2500-3000 + and much more if you are getting 2 toned or custom design

8-20K is a bit much, but 3-4K is what i would realistically plan on if you are planning on doing none of the work yourself. If you are planning on a custom design then yes, you shoudl expect to pay 7-8K +

No i thought it was EXTREMELY high, thats why im not painting my car, no this guy is a friend of mine, and I would get a discount on top of it, but still not low enough, heres the e-mail he sent me:

It is always hard for me to answer that question without seeing the
car. There are different variables involved depending on the condition of
the body. Our prices start at around $8000.00 and can go up to $20,000.00
Of course I will do my best to give you a break but there's a limit to that
as well and it still won't be cheap.

the maaco by my house does amazing work, and cheap. look at some of the body shops in your area and shop around, look outside the box also.

I paid like 800 bucks for a paint job. It was the SE purple color before and now its black. It was a decent job and it looks decent. I have a pic in the accord pic if u want to see it.

I am lookin for a paint job soon also. Mine is the Accord white, however it has your typical rear quarter panel-wheel well rust. Anyhow am I betta to just rebuild the quarters or cut-em and put new panels in? I have been told both ways so just want some opinions.

Thanks!!

I am also looking for a decent paint job. I am going to a bunch of places in the next few days to get estimates. I came here because I recently got my 94 accord from my deceased fahter who travelled a lot. I want to keep this car alive in rememberance. However what sets me different from other paint jobs is I have 2 2" diameter rust spots on the body. I was told by my friend who does this for a living that they remove the rust, sand it down and add metal to the body weld it sand it down and paint over it. I would take it to them but hes 6 hours away. Then i hear places by me saying they just sand down the rust and paint over it ;(. This shouldnt cost too much more correct? Im willing to put down around $3k for a paintjob and to remove the rust, yes all work done by them.

i got mine done at macco, its not great or anything but it looks much better than it did before. Ive had it painted about a year and a half ago and it is wearing a little bit but seems to be holding together well. I didn't do a color change (black over black) so it only cost me about 250 bucks. It was worth it if you ask me.

$250 for an entire paint job? Wow. I was quoted $700+ just for some front end work. Being that it was Maaco I guess that makes some sense. Personally there's no way I would ever get my car painted for $250. I suprised your paint job has lasted this long.

Realistically I would expect a good paint job to run in the neighborhood of $2500-3000.

I've got a 93 EX I'm trying to bring back, and from talking to people at local body shops, their recommendation is to go Maaco, but get their higher grade paint. It'll cost you a bit more (I don't have an estimate yet, but I'm betting about $750 or so), but it should last significantly longer and hopefully avoid the "orange peel" that cheap jobs are so well known for. Just avoid their "ambassador" job and you should be fine.

The guy that paints most of our cars around here went to wyotech and he does awesome work. 1800$ for a red-to midori green paintjob including materials, enginebay, under hood, door jams.

im a painter at maaco in connecticut and we use dupont paint which is good ****. other maaco's use sherwin williams which sucks. all the cars i paint come out great and last more than 5 years. higher end body shops use dupont too. its all in the prep work that makes the paint job last a while.

thats the problem ive seen w/maaco paint jobs..very very shoddy prep work..bad taping, bad sanding..all they do around here(nearby maaco) is do a lil sanding so the paint will stick to the car..thats it.
now,ive seen pple do the prep themselves and THEN take it to maaco and it turns out great.
when i bought my accord, it had just been painted by spray glo. they did a descent job..i cant complain to much about it except they put the accord decal on too soon..the foam and the paint are now one and i cant take the accord and ex emblems off w/out it looking like crap

Is it difficult to do the prep work yourself? Or how much would it cost to have someone do it?

tedious..very tedious. if you want it to look good. has to be sanded with a coarse grit, the resanded with finer and finer untill you wet sand it. and any of the lil dents and dings youve got to get out..you wont realise how many lil imperfections your car has untill your sanding and prepping it for paint..its crazy.

but i have no clue how much it would cost to just have the prep work done. your probably just better off spending, like pple have said, around 2 grand and get a good, quality paint job.

when i got my body kit, i changed from the stock champagne color to all silver. i went to earl schieb. not sure if there is one near you. the are kinda close to price as macco. i got the 5 year warranty and it ran me 399. i caught the sale but orginally it goes for 499. of coarse you can add extras.
