Valve question.....
Ok so ive was cleaning my Z6 head for the past few days and I cleaned up two of the four chambers. Then filled the last two with the Simple Green. Well I wasnt paying attention and I moved the cam gear and it opened the valves. All of the liquid ran out. Well then I closed the valves and tried to fill up the chambers, and now both of them leak....My question now is do i have to lap my valves or when I run the motor will it be fixed?
what chambers are you talking about? the intake ports? the exhaust ports? i assume your talking about one of those since you were mentioning valves. so you (i think) were cleaning the ports by putting simple green in them and accidentally opened the valve allowing the simple green to go into the combustion chamber. Then you turned the motor over (manually? or did you crank it?) And now the valves arent completely seating cuz you tried to fill it back up again and its leaking into the combustion chamber? Your getting yourself into a mess here... For now though, i just wanted to make sure thats what you were trying to say.
no ok....i have the head off the motor.....put simple green in the combustion chamber....then opened the vales.and now wont seal..tried to put s/g in the c/chamber and no it leaks trew the exaust valve...
ohhh alright. well, the simple green definitly shouldnt have messed up the seat or anything. maybe the valve and seat were already damaged but the built up carbon that was there was creating the seal. if the s/g cleaned up the carbon, maybe that seal isnt there anymore. if you know how to dissasemble/reassemble the valve-train, try taking the spring off, clean off both the valve and the seat, go all the way around the valve with a sharpie where it contacts the seat. put the valve in, close it with a little bit of pressure, and spin it around a few times. take the valve out, and look at the valve seat to make sure you see black from the marker all the way around the seat. if theres a spot where there isnt any, thats where the valve isnt seating.
