thought i was content with my color purchase, but i need to quit lying to myself. how do i sand the fairings and how long is it going to take me? just tryin to save a few bucks when i get it done in either rio or spa yellow. thanks.
i'd also welcome any suggestions to variations of the yellow color or such. thanks.

If not done right it may cost you more at the paint shop then if they do it the first time. The quality of the paintjob depends on the prep of the panels that paint will be applied to.
If you are respraying over the stock paint you would probably want to take some 240-320 grit sandpaper and with a sanding pad/sponge (to prevent ridges from the fingers) sand the surface to remove the glossy appearance on the paint surface. Try not to break through the actual paint to the base plastic. If you dont break through the paint, there is no need to use adhension promoters.
This includes the recessed crevices around mounting points and inside the fairings if they are exposed as well. (On my 929 a majority of the upper fairing is exposed on the inside so it has to be prepped as well..)
There are things like scuff pads or scuff paste that can be used in hard to reach areas but it usually works best with sandpaper and elbow grease.
As far as how long it takes, well that is entirely up to you. I was able to plastic weld, body fill damaged spots and prep an entire zx-12r for my buddy in half a day, but then again I have a da sander to do the majority of the flat panels.
Good luck.
