Is this normal? Tire slipping?
before i say anything, i kinda noticed today that the rear suspension seemed a little touchier then normal .. although i havn't had a chance to ride in a few days and i got the bike on the 10th, so it just might be my mind playing tricks on me.
but today i was riding home, and i had been riding for probly at least 15 minutes, but i knew my tires were warm .. it was pretty cold out, but i was doing alot of carving and getting the speeds up and all that. Then i slowed down in first gear to about 30-40, and tried to power it up and the rear tires just spun. i tried it again, and it came up, and they spun once, maybe two more times. (i am just powering it up, a foot or two off the ground, nothing big). I checked everything to make sure it was tight, the chain, bolts, air in tire, swing arm, shock, etc .. and i didn't notice anything out of place. I have 7000 miles on the stock D209 (i think thats what they are called) tires, but they still have ok tread (buying new michelins begning of next month). So with that said, is there anything i should be concerned about? or is my mind just playing tricks on myself.
thanks for taking the time to read/help .. sorry for being so long!

not an expert or anything, but my take is
cold + cooler tire temps + low tread = spin.
but then again, depending on gear and RPM, and technique they could spin too

if you wheelie a lot, it will wear a flat spot on your tire and it will start to spin more and more, regardless of how warm your tire is. Pretty soon your tire will be really square, and you'll really have to muscle it into turns. And it probably won't pass inspection either.

Unless you go bald surely having a flatted rear tyre would be great as it would give you a bigger contact patch?

Clutch slippage can be mistaken for tire spin. I've done it before.
Around my area, you really gotta watch out for spilt diesel fuel on the road... that stuffs nasty.

***I GOT IT!***
i have first hand exp on the subject. I spent most of my time riding up in Big Bear, CA which meant i spent a lot of time spinning tires. I had D208s which i think are softer then yours but even when it was around 50F out, i was spinning tires on the mid range. if it was any colder my 900 could make them spin at 3000RPMs, especially when my rear tire was worn down. so im thinking that if you got 209s and its anywhere near 60F and you got warn tires, thats your prob. don't carve when its cold.

ok ..., well i'm thinking it's either what you (hks) said, or possibly my clutch. My bike is an 03 with 7000 miles on it. Should the clutch be a problem at this mileage? I know my clutch cable loosened up and i tightened it to where it was most comfortable .. is there a certain tightness this should be where it the clutch wont snap on and off or be to loose or anything?
thanks for all the answers
