DPFI to MPFI...Can't use Si engine harness?????
I searched, but couldn't find what I was looking for...
My CRX is rusty as hell, and I'm getting tired of it. I'm looking at picking up a shell, and have been considering DX's. I was under the impression that I could use my Si engine harness and everything would be fine, but I read on Rywire that I could NOT use my Si engine harness, and that the DX harness has to be modified.
Why is this? I was under the impression that if the year is the same, the engine harness would plug into the car harness. I was hoping to just be able to swap everything from the Si onto the DX and be done with it...

yes you have to use the DX harness. It is easy to modify it to work.
In order to use the Si harness, you need to use the entire dash/engine harness. Not worth it. The harness are setup different so you can plug them in to eachother, but they will not work. Different pin locations

thumbtack is absolutely correct. Don't try using that SI engine harness. While the plugs will connect, the wiring of the intake manifold and distributor are very different for the connector on the drivers side.
Well I guess I'll just have to wait for an HF or Si shell I guess...
Thanks for the info guys
I would consider doing the DX swap, but this will be done in a parking lot of an apartment complex, so it'll have to be swapped all in a day...

Get a predone harness, or pull the harness and mod in your house, and get the swap done, the only hard part is the wiring, the rest is quick.

Don't have the money to buy one, don't have the time to mod the harness

if you ask me ... you were going to use that SI harness and you would have just ended up wid more work...DX wire conversion take only 30 mins at the least... and hour to the max... your only adding 4 wires to the ecu to make a mpfi setup work.... better than taking the whole wiring out which would take hours and hours....
Tru, he should do the dpfi to mpfi.
but fyi, rywire does it right, we re wrap the whole harness, and add proper connectors. Our harnesses take a few hours to build correctly(look like stock).

I'm not modding my car. I'm looking to replace warn parts on my car... which just happens to be everything that doesn't move. I simply asked why the Si harness wouldn't work, not weather I should waste my time or $160 for a harness. I got the information I was looking for, and now I know which shell I'll want to find.
Thanks for the info

I would say swapping over 75% of the parts on one chassis to another is "modification".
So get an Si shell from your same year if you want the engine harness to plug and play, otherwise you'll have to move the entire harness over as well. (some match anyway, but to be safe, same year.)

How about an HF from the same year?

Okay, let me show it to you this way:
HF - MPFI Wiring Harness
DX - DPFI Wiring Harness
SI - MPFI Wiring Harness
YOU HAVE A DX... you can either modify your current DX or any DX wiring harness to work with a MPFI swap.
YOU CANNOT USE A MPFI HARNESS. It will not plug and play and is more work to modify it to work than it is to just run the extra wires for the dx harness.

I understand all of these things. I just want to make sure my Si engine harness will plug into an HF shell.

Same issue with the DX where the plugs are completely different?

the plugs are fine, but they are wired differently. Not worth it.
Have you even read how to do a MPFI swap? You only have to swap two wires around and add two extra wires... why are you making this out to be such a hard thing to do? Not trying to sound like a dick or anything, but seriously... what is the problem with doing this with the dx harness? I just dont get it.

Thats not true....
Its not that complex, but still not quite that easy, lol.

I don't have the time to worry about wiring ontop of swapping everything else over. As I've said earlier, this will be done in an apartment complex parking lot. I've got a day max. This is my only car, so I need this for work and school. I know MPFI swaps usually (usually not always) have some sort of bug(s) that need worked out. I'll have enough problems on my hands just swapping everything stock for stock without having to worry about modifying anything.
I want to keep this as simple as possible. If it means I have to buy a 90-91 Si shell to keep me from having to worry about wiring, then that means I have to look for that certain shell.
