I'm Gonna To Satin Black My EF..........HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OK I'm gonna try to paint my EF satin black but I need some help/info on how to go about doing it. I already have some 400 grit sandpaper and I'm borowing my friend's paint sprayer tomorrow. Any information is greatly appreciated!
If your car is already painted and still has a clear coat all you need to do is take the clear coat off. It should be very thin so it wont take much. Get a bucket of clean water and start sanding. Use your hand to tell when you've sanded enough. It will feel extremely smooth to the touch. Paint sticks to paint better than paint to metal, so don't sand too deep. I would recommend taking the hood off if your gonna rattle can. If you don't your very likely to have the splotchs and lines. Just take your time and spray from FAR away. 12"+, if you try to spray real close and thick it will run and you will have a hell of a time fixing it. Just take your time and spray away. This took me about 4 hours, and most of it was taping stuff off. About 3 coats, using 4 cans of flat black primer.
Ok if you want to go cheap just scuff it up (no need to sand off the clear coat) with some 220 rub it down with some autobody paint prep and spray till your heart is content . If you want it to be a nice paint job you will need to spend time on the prep as I said before sand it with 220 spray it with sealer, shoot a base coat of black. Then clear it about three times with clear mixed with a matte agent you can get from a paint store. This will give you a nice finish that you can wash and wax but will still look flat. the benefit is your paint will not oxidize our get stained. Look at Jessie james black merc. That is how it was done.
