Default My LS Build, need help&opinions

Hi, im new to H-T and im a noob to everything related to engines.
Heres a pic of my ride

i was thinking for months wat to do to my car to make it faster. Turbo/GSR/ITR/LSVTEC/Built LS

ive decided to go with a Built LS, cause of my budget and i gotten a head for super cheap from a buddy of mine. rite now on my car, i have A short Ram Intake and Borla Catback Exhaust.

The head i got includes
Crower 404 Cams
Crower Titanium Retainers
Crower Dual Titanium Valve Springs
Skunk2 Cam Gears
Skunk2 Intake Manifold
AEM Fuel Rail
B&M Fuel Pressure Regulator
Balanced OEM Injectors

I was going to do up my bottom, but i realised its gonna cost alot more than i had in my budget, so im gonna buy a shortblock and work on that to save downtime in the near future.

I searched here and people said that with the 404's im gonna need more compression to run those cams at its fullest potential. So im gonna get B16 Pistons .25mm bore, Rod Bolts, Knife Edge Balanced Crank and other things which i can think about later.

Right now im just gonna put the head parts onto mine for now and run that for abit(not doing it myself, my buddy is doing it for me). I just have a couple questions

What other things should i consider when putting theses new parts in??
What Octane Fuel should i be running?
Will a Apexi VAFC help tune my car at all? (i gave my friend one for free, and im thinking of asking for it back, if i need it for myself)

any input will be greatly appreiciated, thx

~Jimmy

If you use CTR's and put ARP rod bolts in the bottom end and have a chip burnt for you set-up you will prob make about 170-175 whp easy. I had this exact set-up. I used a custom eprom to rev to 8.5k and had a Gen. 1 SAFC. My best ET with this setup is in my Sig. Good luck. BTW I had a stock head (no milling or p&p)

isnt there valve clearance issues with the CTR's? or something thats gonna hit?

The guy i bought the head off of, made 180WHP, and he told me that i should stay away from CTR's and B16s will be less headache

The LS head would have to be milled over .100" to even get close to hitting. When I ran 404's and CTR's I had over .300" clearence between the pistons and valves. Even adj. cam gears to (+10 to -10) you will have over .200" of room. If you dont know for sure clay....

i dont think PCT's are a good idea, too high compression for pump gas and poor piston design. stick with the p30's or pr3's like you originally planned.

Did you get that head from Eclypz? If so he can help you and he is in Vancouver.

I run P30, and I am happy, but I yhink the extra compression from CTR's would be nice.

You should be able to do the bottome end for cheap.

P30 Pistons $250 w/ rings.
Bearing kit $100
ARP rod bolts(208-6001) $35
OBD-II Oil pump $100

yes i got it from Eclypz.

i got quoted $640CND for B16 Pistons w/rings
i guess ill go the extra mile and put in extra things when i have the $.

My goal is actually to hit over 180WHP, and since from wat i remember

one more question. If u retard ur cams, ur making more HP and when u advance them ur getting more torque and mid range power??

Im actually in the process of buying all my parts for my bottom end

Got a shortblock gonna do a standard Bore
B16 P30 Pistons (out of the 2000 Civic B16)
ARP Rod Bolts
Main Bearings
Rod Bearings ACL=Tri-metal rite?
Timing Belt
Gasket Kit
Hondata S100

just found out yesterday that my bro gets Cost +10% at Honda so im gonna save some $ there.

Got one question, i read nicklk thread https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1281062
and he's making 154WHP, and everyones saying that his header is the reason why hes not making much power at top RPM.

i have a DC 4-2-1 header, is that gonna happen to me aswell??

My buddy has a RS-R Header, should i sell mine and buy that one instead?

Go with 404 cams if you want more power! The DC 4-2-1 header is ok but nothing great. THey will support 180+ whp. So I would try it out and then decide from there!

Let me know how it turns out.

Go with the dc header it makes decent power for its price.

I would go with the DC 4-1! I would say the Mugen, but it has short primaries! You really want an exhaust manifold that is long primary 4-2-1, but that are expensive and I cant afford one right now. Examples of a header like this are the Jun long primary, Hytech, and SMSP.

Surprisingly though I have seen better results with 4-2-1 headers on the LS than 4-1's
