how to get 60 foot times down...what does my timeslip mean?...first time at track!
Well, i raced at epping, NH yesterday for the first time. I've never ran at the track before. I ran 3 times and every time was a 15.0 flat. I guess that would of been good for bracket racing but I was very disappointed.
my best times were
reaction: 1.1
60 foot: 2.43
1/4: 15.03
MPH: 92.13
what do those numbers tell you? I would think with that mph i should be able to get my times down somehow...
lol...i know i REALLY need to improve on my reaction...i kept "WAITING" for the light to turn green
my setup:
88 crx
B20b w/ intake, header, exhaust and y1 b16 tranny no lsd
5/8 tank of gas, 2 full toolboxes, and a full spare w/ full interior, bald falken azenis (very bad camber, only inside 1/3 is bald and that's what i'm ridin on)
how do i get my 60 foot times down? is it just all that extra weight or is it driver or tires or a combination of all of that?
My car wheel hops all the way thru first and then spins into second.
BTW: track officials told me that the times were off between .3-.4 tenths...have you ever heard of that before? If that's true thats bull and it doesn't make me feel any better because my timeslip still says 15.0 not 14.7 or 14.6....lol
I was hoping for at least a 14.8 but more towards 14.5. Do you think with new tires, less weight and more practice i can net a 14.5?
please shed some light!

Not to dog ya or anything but your 60ft times are really slow. Get some good drag radials or slicks and you'll pull 1.8/1.9 60 ft times and bring your ets down to 14.5's or so......good luck.
no that's really ok...i realize that....it's my VERY FIRST TIME at the track. I really need the criticism to help me out here. I got to get my car aligned first then i'll get some new tires...i really like the azenis but i was thinkin of some bfg's for next track day.

Your time doesn't start until you take off. You could wait at the line for 5 minutes if you wanted to and the time wouldn't start. You just need to improve on your 60 ft. time. Don't even worry about your reaction time when your trying to get a good time for yourself.

I pulled some 2.2 60 ft's with azenis. Still not that good but better than a 2.4. I would say it's in your launch. What RPM are you launching at? You want to launch in your power band. Even if you are getting wheel spin you will still be faster than if you bog it off the line.
Get rid of the toolboxes man! That extra weight didn't help you any either, lol! You should be able to get a 14.5 if you can get it launched better. Get some BFG's and that's probably all the help you need. I saw a 88 CRX Si do constent 14.2's with a stock b20 and 92 GSR tranny.

ditch the all the crap in your car, it's not safe and it hurts your ET's. Secondly, if you really want to improve your ET's buy some extra wheels and a set of better tires or slicks. Your 60's are terrible.
i hear ya on the tools n stuff. I had the tool boxes and full spare rim/tire because i took a 2.5 hour trip to that track...just in case i broke down. I had all that gas because i didn't know how much i would need. Next time, I'm just gonna fill to 3/8's and drive up there and if i need more gas on the way up i'll just put like 4 dollars in so I'm under a 1/4 tank when i'm up there.
I'm gonna get an alignment done and then get either another set of azenis or some bfg's and leave all the tools home and see what i can do. I know this car is capable of sub 14.5 second 1/4's as it is...there's plenty of eg's runnin this setup right now runnin 14.2's....
i was launching at 3k w/out any bog at all...i just wheel hopped VERY VERY bad in first gear and spun for probably like 1.5 seconds into second i had to feather off the gas slightly.
I know those 60 foot times are horrible....and i already knew about the reaction time not factoring in to your 1/4...i was just postin those to show you how horrible i am at taking off.

Little help for you ...
The tree is a .500 light tree . In order to get a good reaction time , the time it takes you to leave the light after the light is green . You need to leave on the last yellow . Factoring in the time it takes the light to turn adn the time it takes you to actually go through with the action of launching will net you a good light ..
Also for the actual launching portion , pre-load your car . While pulling up to the staging lights pull the ebrake up and hold it while slowly letting out the clutch till you feel the car haunch down . When the light goes green let the clutch out and drop teh e-brake ..
On a B20 setup I would bring my revs to around 3500-4000 with good tires , with bad ones 3k or so ..
This should need you a good light and a 60 in the 2.0 range .. Lower if you have DR's

Toe in and camber plays a big factor as well. Invest 2-300 on some traction bars to help eliminate wheel hop. What i always liked that worked well with drag radials. Get a 4 wheel alignment, rear wheels leave dead center, fronts i always liked 1/4 inch toe in, and -.09 on the camber. so when you come out of the hole this will straightened the wheels out and improve your 60 foots.
When i run i run consistant 1.58-1.63's.
Good luck.

Forget Azenis those are not drag tires, just happen to be a stickier than normal STREET TIRE for Autocrossing.
Get an extra set of wheels and BFG G-force drags, Dunlop Inferno Drags and even Nitto 555R's are still available.
With more track time you'll get 60 fts down under 2.0, which is still marginal by drag racing standards but a huge improvement over the 2.4's you have been getting.
Based on your trap speed, you should see mid 14's easy just by getting your short times down.
Alignment is important also.
Again - Forget the Azenis, Nitto 555R's are $95 for 205/55-14 and BFG's are $104
I would go for either, both can get you under 2.0 in 60ft time.

where can i get the bfgs for 14's? i haven't been able to find any. I appreciate all of your guys help.
My alignment is really bad...i have toe out up front and negative camber like a *****. I have an SPC camber kit but when i adjust it to compensate for the negative camber, i just get worse toe out and the tires screach while driving...does anyone know the solution for this?
Thanx for the tips on the preloading...has anyone else done this and is it the common thing to do?

well...i can definately see that the toe is out and camber is neg. it's obvious to see that. When i add positive camber on my camber kit to adjust for the neg. camber, i just get toe out really bad and the tires point out in the front...it makes the tires squeal while just driving in a straight line!
what do you mean camber in? When i fix the bad camber with the camber kit, i get horrible toe out.
what tires are better....nitto 555's or bfg DRs? They have similar pricing. The nittos are a l little cheaper but everyone seems to prefer the bfgs...how does sizing affect the 60's and trap speed because the nittos come in 205/55/14 and the bfgs come in 205/50/14...i would think that the bfg's are the better choice here right?

after you get the camber to around -.09, yes it will throw your toe out of adjustment, then you realign the toe. Camber= camber kit adjustment, toe= adjusting the tie rod end. Just take it to 4 wheel lazer alignment.
I just got my front end aligned along with my camber kit adjusted. What a difference. I had them align the front to -.9 like h22civic said.
It rides so nice now...now the WHOLE tire sits on the ground instead of just the insides. I don't wheel hop or spin into second that much anymore...it's great.
I also ordered the BFG TA DR's. My boy hooked me up with 104.00 each for the 205/50/14's....which includes everything: shipping, mounting, and balancing. I'm gonna throw them on a set of crx si wheels and use my del sol wheels w/ azenis for the street.

thanx...next is a tune on the cam gears and safc and will hope for a 14.4 or less.
What pressure should i run the bfg DR's at?
20 psi? 16 psi?
does anyone have any "general" ideas of what my cam gears should be set at?
right now, i have the intake 2 advanced and the exhaust 1 advanced which from my knowledge is moving the power slightly more to the midrange...is this good?
or should i bring it up a bit? I'm only revving to 7k currently.
