timing belt
hello,
I'm new to the site and need some help. I've done some searching in the archives but didn't come up with a conclusive answer. I have a 93 teg and my timing belt went out. my mechanic says instead of replacing the timing belt due to the fact that the valves are probably bent, I should replace my engine. If I should replace my engine I know it is a b18a1 can it be replaced by a b18b1 from a 94. the b18a1's are kinda scarce on my side of the US (MI). Thank you in advance to anyone out there who can give me some assistance.

if your timing belt snap while you were driving then yes your valves are most likely bent. But if it was just going then they should be fine. Also instead of changing the motor out just swap out the head with a vtec head and make a frankenstein. that will save you some money and yeild much better power gains over going into another ls.
Thanks for the reply.
if I go with a vtec head does the wiring harness or anything need to be changed (forgive me if my question seems dumb, I'm new to the mechanics of the engine)

If you do what he just said let me warn you, its hard to get that setup running correct. I wouldnt go as far as a new motor either. I would just replace the head and shave it a bit.
Youll have to change you ecu and have to wire for vtec if you dont have a vtec motor in there. its kind of a hassle to get it runnin corectly, but if you do, those motors are beasts.

This is true. They are not the easiest things to do but is well worth it. You will have to wire vtec and also get a different ecu. But other then that its simple. But if you Dont know what you are doing take it to a professional.
