im getting a 1st gen crx si in the next month and im painting it flat black w/ spray paint BUT i dont want it to look like it was spray painted. I dont want it to have the darker and lighter spots on it that spray paint might leave behind. I was thinkin i might spray it then get 1000 grit sand paper to make the paint more even! My question is has anyone tried it? IF not then ill let you know how it turns out
But any helpful opinions are welcome

i have a lot of friends with hot rods and also im into hot rods. the way you do a "FLAT BLACK" paint job is to give it the satin look and use not flat black but "SEMI GLOSS BLACK." flat black looks like gray when it drys.

what about using "satin black"? is it the same as semi gloss black? this would probably coat more even than flat black!

No it's not. Semigloss has a TINY bit of shine to it..just enough to reflect light. It's NO where near a regular paint job using bc/cc.

spray paints no matter what is going to give you light/dark spots. If you sand it, it will start to turn white (scratches). Go rent an air compressor, hose, and a gun. Then pick up some semi gloss paint from home depot (like a 1 gal. of john deer or something) mix it mix it with some lacquer thinner (not sure on the ratio, just use trial and error, this stuff isnt that expensive) and spray away. First read up on spray guns though. SATA's a good company.
damn anybody remember the SuperStreet issue where they painted the WRX a flat black with like a gazzilioin rattle cans? i never read the article, but maybe they tell you how they did it in there.
i'll try and look for it later today when im off work..but in the meantime...anybody know what im talkin about?
