My friend is after buying a 1996 R33 skyline GTS-T (RB25DET motor) These cars have become so accessible here in ireland in the last year and you can pick up a midly modified one now for approx $15000 on the road price. A completely standard one can be had for around $13000. An R33 GTR will cost anything from $20-25k. His has HKS hiper exhaust, HKS intake, tein coilovers and 17" bronze Volk TE-37s, turbo timer, gauges blah blah and looks and sounds so freekin good. He let me take it for a drive today and getting into my ITR afterwards just left me feeling dull. I love the ITR and everything about it, but it isnt a patch on the GTS. The burble from the 6cyl motor even driving around town is just knicker wetting and on WOT is
...i know theyre two totally different cars, but if you had the chance to own one of these cars over an ITR would you do it?

They're fairly cheap here without registration. I had one lined up for $12,000 with fairly nice mods, but wasn't worth the time to register it to me.

Hehehe...
I'd keep my R. Too much invested in it. Or get both. Skyline would make a nice daily driver.

Any idea about how to go about importing one? I agree, this would be a nice driver.
Do I assume correctly, that by "registration" (US) it means all the US cert stuff including headlight alignment, crash cert, etc. Not just smog and tags?
I was thinking of doing this.

He is in Ireland.
Also, I probably wouldn't trade my ITR for a Skyline, but if I was in your situation, I would do my best to own both.

Bahahahaha good call LOL!
I really couldnt decide between them. I guess if you want all out ballistic power, then yeah, the Skyline (id say its the same, but they call them GTS25-t in NZ) would be the better option. But me, i LOVE skylines, but couldnt bear to let the R go

Yeah the badge on the back was GTS 25t. I wouldnt call them ballistic, they are quick and powerful but not ballistic. Standard the RB25DET makes 250bhp, his has a HKS exhaust and down pipe, so maybe his has about 265bhp, maybe less/more.
Registering a JDM car here is like registering any car, you pay the import duty and a registration fee, get a set of reg plates made up, transfer your insurance onto the car and drive home. A car arriving off the boat from japan on a monday morning at 9am can be registered and on the road legally by mid-day
