Yeah, it was my first event. I didnt get to walk the course before hand, so I had enough DNF's for everyone.

saw your post on the tarheel forum. You definitely picked a great club to start out with. Only downside is if you ever do events with other clubs, you'll notice some differences in how things are run and how Tarheel can do events 2-3 times the size much smoother. Hate I missed it today. I was supposed to be going out for my first Tarheel event of the year but had to work. Anyway, glad you had a good time. Have fun and hope to see you at the next one.

Funny thing about that pic - I was riding along (I'm a Novice Mentor) with the driver, Mike G. He's a Honda guy too who came over to the dark side with this new-to-him M3. This picture was of his first run ever at his first autocross ever.
That cone smacked the accessory drive belt and tore it to shreds. Post-incident analysis showed that (1) the undertray was missing which let this happen, (2) the belt was VERY brittle and already damaged (ie just a matter of time), and (3) he was MISSING an idler pulley which had caused the belt to fray before the cone smacked it (belt was idling on a bare shaft)
We were going to fix it when I spotted the missing idler pulley. Car went home on a flatbed. After his first and only run.
Freak incident, and the only time I have seen a BMW leave on a tow from an autocross. Poor guy
Lesson - buyer beware (hope he got the car cheap), and always make sure a car is mechanically well-maintaned before autocrossing it.

Your fogetting the one other thing driven by the accessort belt some cars... the alternator, and it is also possiable that the cars water pump was driven by that belt.
