Painters: check out pics and tell me what i'm doing wrong please
i decided to paint my DC2 Blitz black since its been hit multiple times and hailed on since it got painted a few years ago. my body work seemed to go okay and today i decided to spray some primer with my new gun. IT WAS A DESASTER. I'll post picks so you can see. any input on what i'm doing wrong will help. or if you can walk me through adjusting my gun it would be great. I figured out to set the pressure regulator on the gun with the trigger depressed. that seemed to help some, but i was getting a ton of overspray. i think i may have had the paint mixed to thin too. the primmer (yellow) is from john deere and its kind of rubbery. HELP ME PLEASE. THank you
Oh and should i just go get a cheap gravity fed gun? would that be easier?

why are you using yellow primer? painting a car doesnt seem like something you can just do in your driveway, especially if you've never done it before.
i painted a couple cars in highschool for body shop. I never had to set the gun up though. Once its time to spray i was pretty decent. I'm painting the car in my garage i just wanted to lay some primer over the plastic work.
i dont know **** about painting cars, wish i could help. but, just keep going, i dont think there are many cars on here with a paint job like that

You'll probably wanna set up some kind of a canopy around the car and paint inside that. Just to keep everspray from going everywhere. It just looks like your paint is really thin. ANd I would use a gray primer if i were you
i'm actually spraying it IN the garage. I was just ******* around mostly tonight, but i expected a lot different outcome. I think you may be right about the paint i wasnt very precise in my measuring
the bubbling in the paint is oil and dirt.
if the surface is not properly prepped (use a oil/wax remover) then it'll bubble and wont stick corectly.
my uncle painted his truck when i was younger and a few spots has those bubbles. those spots werent cleaned properly and still had grease/oil...
good luck.

ahh so wiping it down with acetone prolly wasnt the best idea. or i shoould have waited longer before i sprayed. anyone able to walk me through adjusting the gun?

Im not no "PRO" painter but maybe this will help...
-on the parts that are bare metal use "ETCHING" primer.
-and parts that have paint still and is not bare, use auto primer.
-then wet sand it.
-then your paint should stick to the car better.
remember----- "regular" primer DOESNT bond to bare metal. you need to "ETCH" it with etching primer then prime then paint.
and---- check your paint mixter.
hope this helps.
oh yeah, try a darker primer since your painting it black..... and use a lighter color for block sanding.

I can only second what people have said:
-Surface doesn't seem to be prepped properly; it's not sticking, that's why it's bubbling and staying shiny and goopy and ****
-On bare metal use something that etches to get layer of aluminum oxide off
-For a good paintjob, a proper primer is ESSENTIAL!!! do NOT skimp on the quality of the primer for it is what the paint is sticking to!!

the primer i was using is from john deere. I got it cause that s the paint i'm using. really i could prolly get away with rattle can primer considering how little bare metal thier is.

Your best bet would be to go to a local auto paint supply store and getting some high build primer and spray the whole car with that so your basecoat has a good base. The "fish eye" would be eliminated by wiping the whole car down with wax and grease remover and not tinner or acetone. The auto high build is much easier to spary than that junk that it looks like you are trying to spray.
