Today's Track Session
Had a fun time today at the track (sorry, no pics this time) and learned a few things while working on car set-up - specifically damper settings. I struggled with a mushy brake pedal all morning despite bleeding them again last night.
This was my first track session with the XT Lap Timer (https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1222238) and it worked flawlessly...
I wasn't paying attention to lap times while driving but there is some real power in sitting in the car after a session and running it through your mind while looking at the lap time history.
What I am most proud of today was my consistency. At times there was heavy traffic that I had to work through - but when I got a clear track I rolled off this sequence of laps:
1:25:58
1:25:53
1:25:79
1:25:74
1:25:56
1:25:61
1:25:58
My best time for the day was a 1:24:79. This was with damper settings at 9f/7r (out of 15). The track is a little bumpy at places especially in braking zones and corner exits - and as I increased damper settings throughout the morning I would lose time. Next session I will begin to go softer with the dampers to see what happens as well as running a stiff rear/soft front damper setting...
Also of note: birds die when you clip them at 110mph and anti-freeze dropped in an uphill corner by a big camaro is very slippery.

It was me. No damage, I just clipped him with the top of the windshield... the last thing I was going to do was swerve...

Well, I think that bird learned a valuable lesson.
-Chris, who wishes he'd pony up for a laptimer... and wishes he didn't spend so much time in traffic..

After you habe a little experience and are comfortable on the track a lap timer is a great investment IMO...
I also learned (ok, I already knew it but this last session made it so obvious) that my rev matching ( or lack of rev matching) sucks - I really hamfisted things a few times. My legs are so long I find it nearly impossible...

Same here, 6'4, long legs... I can't move my knees around, and my ankle isn't that flexible.

Awesome stuff
Nice consistancy. It's good to see and hear reports like this since I plan to get a timer/transponder before this season is through.
I am also going to run my first Time Trial this fall, should prove to be interesting since even though I drive in advanced groups I still feel like a novice and know I always have things to practice and learn.

I ran with NASA at Road America this spring in the Neon, with HPDE3+4+TT. I was passed _everywhere_ and _anywhere_. It was an awesome learning experience. I learned how to check mirrors every 2 seconds, because things that are closing on you at 50+ MPH come quick
So, no worries, you should be fine in the arrrr.

< Suprised your faster w/ stiffer settings in front
What spring rates are you running again?</TD></TR></TABLE>
I only ran a stiffer front damper this session. I will try stiff rear/soft front next session of the one after that. Next session may be focused on going softer all around (while keeping the realative front stiff bias) to see if there is speed there...
I am running 12k/10k springs.
